Changing the spark plugs on my wife’s ‘12 Forester.
You’re doing this on a BMW V12 aren’t you?
My 03 Evo VIII has 314,000 miles on the clock and the suspension and subframe bushings are tired. Replacing them all has been on my list for a while but it will be a big pain in the ass. I’ll need to get a press. All the suspension arms are forged aluminum, so you should not heat them up to get the old bushings out.…
Absolutely. Gonna try and tackle it one little bit at a time so as not to overwhelm myself. Cleaning up and painting and going through all the used parts right now and then comes the big job of tearing half the car apart to begin replacing things.
I needed to change a rusty control arm on my old Mercedes. After leaving the car to sit for ~4 yeas I finally replaced it, with lots of help from our roommate. Getting to the outside bolt means taking the subframe out....
Bodywork on my old truck.
Have a ‘66, holy hell is that a mess!
The cruise control failed on my ‘06 Prius, so I bought the replacement switch. That is one of two failure modes, with the second buried within the steering column. I bought the part, but after owning the part for several years of not installing it, the head gasket gave out and overheated, so I sold it. The ‘07…
May not be strictly repair related, but I went to help a friend who bought a set of coilovers for his E36 M3. The installation went okay, but he was absolutely keen on getting the ride height perfect on all four corners, which took forever on a trolley jack...
The fragile plastic rear window on our BMW Z3 project car has developed a two foot long tear. You’re supposed to be able to easily remove the window with a zipper and replace it, but after-market replacement tops do not include the zipper. So the whole top must be replaced.
XK8 Convertible. So unfortunately I also have to remove the convertible top at the back of the car to be able to get a saw in the right angle to cut cleanly. One guy on the Jaguar forums used a hole saw and then put a nautical inspection hatch (like the one below) to cover the hole back up again.
It’s gonna sound silly. But that Takata airbag recall. Our RX-8 needs to get its airbags fixed, but it’s a project car. It almost always needs work. So getting it to the dealership is gonna take some work. But I swear I get one of those things in the mail every day. I’M GONNA GET IT FIXED, MAZDA. JUST BECAUSE IT’S…
On the bright side, you have a V10 Rs6.
Well, that’s officially a pain in the ass.
I’m replacing the entire climate control system in my ‘64 Cadillac. It was the first year they introduced “comfort control”. Set the temperature and go. It also means it was a super complex labyrinth of vacuum hoses and wires that I’ll have to go through and I have no idea what I’m doing. Luckily a really awesome dude…
I was putting off swapping out my rear heater core until Sunday. It leaked a little, smelled a little, but wasn’t a big deal. Eventually, I got a radiator leak, so it was time to knock it all out.
Doing Valve Stem Seals and Lifters on my BMW 850. I have three cylinders left. It is hard thankless work.
I have a V10 RS6 with THE oil leak. The seal is 50p. Labour and all the other things that need replacing to do it are £2-£3k
Replacing the goddamned fuel pump, a task so onerous on my car that some folks just take a cutting disc (or holesaw) to the parcel shelf rather than deal with getting the fucking tank out.
