Does it use one 3.5mm connection or two (one for mic and one for audio)? If one then you are set. If two you will need an adapter to turn them into one (these are dirt cheap).

To be fair a lot of people like options when it comes to batteries. I for one prefer eneloop as they last longer than the official one and being swappable means I'm never tethered to my console for a charge. If anything this goes against your argument of proprietary.

The MS official headset? Yes its just 3.5mm to a included official MS adapter. Just leave the adapter off and you can use the headset in any 3.5mm jack.

Actually game audio and chat come through the 3.5mm jack. That's what Polk and TB are doing, a headset with one 3.5mm cable to the included official MS adapter and thats it. Plug in and play.
