I never understood the point of Melo last year. He actively made the team worse every time he was out there and the Thunder were often legitimately scary when he sat. 

At the very least, he’s athletic and chippy and gives them another ball handler who isn’t frequently one of the fatter dudes in the league (sup Ray Felton). He’s also decidedly Not Carmelo Anthony, so that’s a win.
