I’ve owned 4 e39s, and each one has gone from amazing to complete garbage between 200 and 225k. Everything just started breaking at the same time. So it depends on the car for me. I buy a lot of full-size GMs, and they’re just getting broken in at 200k.

Am I crazy, or is golf suffering from a severe lack of personality? The new blood is insanely talented, and great to watch on the course, but Jesus Christ, somebody throw a club already. Nobody has that Tiger Woods fire or John Daly insanity, and I think golf is the worse for it.

I honestly can’t think of any broken buttons or switches in the fleet. And 5 of the cars are American between 1987 and 1997. In my experience it’s pretty much always the mechanism controlled by the switch that breaks rather than the switch itself.

Valid point. But when something breaks on the dub, I can usually fix it with $11 worth of parts and a Leatherman.

I’m worried about reliability. I have a 1970 VW Bus, and every little switch and knob and dial still works perfectly. How long does it usually take before the screen on your phone gets wonky? A hell of a lot less than 45 years.

I so very miss the simple functionality of buttons and switches. The mechanical clunk of the mechanism, the 100% reliability, the way they’re always in the same spot. Shove your touch screen up your ass. Cars were better without them.
