I’m no blue lives matter type who thinks cops can do no wrong, but this seems like a reasonable response in this situation. Seems like it could have ended much worse for all involved had they taken a different approach. 

I don’t believe for a second that this is a revelation. This is just a marketing piece for them to once again remind everything that Supercharger access is coming so you may as well head into a dealership and buy their EVs, with increasing dealer inventory.

Synthetic materials are 100% about customer perception and 0% about animal welfare or environmentalism.  Hell the production of most synthetic seating material is worse for the environment than animal hide.  But it’s easier for OEM’s to avoid publicity problems if they switch to synthetics.

I came here to say just this. My understanding is that most cow leather is a food production byproduct. So unless people abandon beef as a protein source, it doesn’t seem inhumane or counter to environmental concerns to not use the hides for practical purposes.

ICE vehicles aren’t nearly affected by heat as much as EVs. Also they can be refueled in less than 5 minutes so range isn’t much of a concern.

You went to the wrong parts of the island. The incredibly touristy downtown makes up only a small part of the island. There are a lot of other great places to hike or hangout by the water. The fort is also worth a visit. 

Most Michiganders love the fact that the Island is vehicle free and limits things like electric bikes. It’s part of the charm and history and one reason why people like to visit. Locally, this will most likely be viewed as a positive story than a negative. I sure do.
