I honestly think the only thing that would possibly convince Disney (note, this was a Disney decision and not a Marvel decision) to rehire Gunn would be if every principle actor involved in GotG were to breach their contract and quit the movie. And it would take everyone:Pratt, Saldana, Diesel, Cooper and Bautista. 

My picks for the lead: Emma Stone or ScarJo, though Tilda Swinton might be an interesting choice
