Yeah, I think the recent-ish Shang Chi graphic novel (The Hellfire Apocalypse) doesn’t use Fu Manchu’s name, though he’s there.  If they want to use an immortal international crime lord, they don’t NEED the name.  Call him “the lord of strange deaths” or any of his million other titles... or call him the Mandarin,

Years back Joe Pesci starred in a movie loosely based on Weegee - The Public Eye. As I recall they even used some real Weegee photos.  Now, he wasn’t called Weegee and I don’t know if that was some legal thing or what.  All I know is I remember nothing about the plot, and I don’t think it was a good movie.  Too bad -

I misread and thought this was “A Dog’s Journal”. Which would be pretty much Went out. Ate grass, puked, ate that. Peed on lawn. Almost caught neighbor’s cat. Goddamn bastard cat.  Went in, slept for 6 hours. Woke up. Went out. Peed. Came in, took a nap.

Yeah. I stay in CA because I’ve got most of my family here. The bubble effect lets people (somehow) ignore a lot of what’s going on even in California, as if it’s an anomaly and as if bad things don’t happen, or aren’t endemic, here. Since 2016 (and before) there’s been this “ooh, well, it’s so much better here”

I started a petition to make Change.org into what I always thought it was, an infant-caretaker hailing service for busy San Francisco parents.

if people didn’t think Dany would end up being the villain, they never understood the show they were watching

I’ll sign it if they’re petitioning to digitally put a Starbuck’s somewhere in the background of every episode in seasons 1 through 7.

I find myself knowing that this will be great, and .... that’s not realistic.  I guess.  But jeez, how could it not be?  Wait, don’t tell me.

I did a thing last year that maybe I shouldn’t have done. I binge-watched Black Mirror. It was depressing and glorious. All the episodes can’t run together in my mind because each is so different, but I found myself posting on Facebook much more seldomly, and being hyper-aware when hiking, because of possible robot

As an atheist, I look forward to a sleep where the alarm doesn’t wake me up.

I’m not the first or only one to say it, and won’t try to be creative about it: Ghostbusters was fine. Very funny when I saw it originally, and still pretty funny. But it’s not that great.

I am so far beyond done with red state living. I spent the weekend before last in the PNW and really want to go back ASAP.

DOG READS PAPER!

Dorothy makes it home anyway, vowing never to leave it again, and in the last shot of the movie, she’s still got the loyal Toto in her arms.

You wouldn’t take your Derby-winning horse to the local vet, would you?

I’d love a reboot with the series as a period piece. The early 1960s is chock full of (well-exploited in the Connery run) Cold War spycraft, with no mobile phones..

Margo Martindale is Bella Abzug

Conway starred in a number of failed sitcoms. This was back in the day when, no matter how badly the Nielsen ratings, a show would air for half a season. At one point Conway had a personalized license plate that read “13 WKS”.

I’m really looking forward to this, and... I have HBO lately. Or. You know, someone does.
