I don’t know Kentucky at all, so I don’t know if Slaughters is in Eastern or Western. But that’s where Chris Knight is from, and he’s pretty damn amazing too. Was a mine inspector, learned guitar so he could play John Prine songs, didn’t get a record deal till he was in his late 30s.

I fear the only way those... traditionalists... would accept an Idris Elba would be they pulled a Spider-Man and had him be a Bond from a multiverse.

Also, it’s not like there’s ever much of an origin story for Bond, so there’s little danger of Spiderman-esque fatigue.

squaring off against a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology while in pursuit of a missing scientist

thrilling and vibrant

Connie Willis is amazing. - my wife used Doomsday Book when she was teaching European History to high schoolers. You want kids to understand the Black Plague, that’s the book...

I guess I really have to give Lois McMaster Bujold a try. People I know who’ve read her say she’s great. She’s done so much, and I never knew what to start with, so I’ll go with Curse of Chalion, what the hell.

Calling it now, the best 11 Questions of the year, no matter who else shows up. What clinched it for me was the Buster Keaton/Muhammed Ali answer.  I want to have Mount Rushmore fixed right now.

I’m not eating a candy that implies it tastes like chicken.

I wonder what 9-1-1 people do differently in Texas. Do they eat barbecue on their breaks, maybe?  Doesn’t seem like must-see tv to me.

Sometimes the end credits have modern music over them.... would it have cost them a lot to have put Phil Ochs’ brilliantly raucous folk song version of that Poe poem on last night...?

I can easily see Dany’s scouring of King’s Landing being part of Martin’s plan in the books- what I didn’t get was a whole season, or at least a few more episodes, leading up to me thinking that TV Dany would do that.

maybe this is all just Jon Snow’s dying thoughts and the real resolution starts next episode

I found the miniseries to be just... flat and uninteresting.  I liked the movie a lot, partly for its concentration on the kid-era part.  Don’t know how they’ll conclude it (they won’t be using the gang-bang probably, and holy hell what was that all about?) - but I really enjoyed this trailer.

Hollywood, if you could stop using blindness as a joke that’d be greeeeeat.

Like, she came into Community in its sixth season, and instantly nailed it

I think that Martin will finish the books, and they’ll be different enough from whatever the series does that the show-vs.-books discussions will go on forever. I mean there’ve already been plot points not taken up, characters with different fates.

GRRM who seems more interested in cashing in on his newfound fame and fortune than finishing up the story or making sure that D&D stay faithful to the source material.

Just finished all the episodes. I agree with the review for the most part, but would bump the letter grade up to a B at least; most of that’s due to Cardellini and Applegate (the latter of whom I am almost completely unfamiliar with).

All movies and TV are improved with Linda Cardellini, even the Marvel Cinematic Universe
