it’s worth the eight and a half or so hours to chug through the show. It’s a goddamn delight.

Thursdays. Mike Schur. Natalie Morales.

I never had the problems most people had with X3. I thought it had some good stuff in it. I don’t know that the Dark Phoenix movie is the right move for the franchise, but... too late I guess.

I like this!  I put it on the same level as Whitley Streiber’s supposedly non-fiction book Communion. I don’t believe a word of it (Streiber does, or did - not sure where he comes down on the issue nowadays) but it’s scary as hell with a well constructed narrative.

I can’t watch the trailer here at work, but that line? First saying that no human is meant to be up there — that should be nice and comforting. Then the “anything’s possible” comes at the end, and tells you that sure, there might as well be a monster out there.

When it was released (at least where I lived at the time) God Told Me To was titled Demon. Didn’t matter - I read a review probably in some s-f magazine that made it seem worth my time. It was - scary and suspenseful and mysterious and loopy as hell. This was back in the olden days and I sat through the damn thing

I didn’t know he’d done Branded - now I like him even more. There were a lot of western shows back in the day, but that one was innovative and pretty edgy for its time. As I recall Chuck Conners’ character (Jason McCord) wasn’t actually guilty of the act or acts of cowardice that got him drummed out of the Army - but

In addition he made that donation 6 years before his daughter became eligible to attend which is a long time to wait between quid and quo

I don’t remember the ages of characters in the books vs movies, but I think Robb is a teenager when he starts leading his armies, isn’t he? Anyway that’s what I pictured while reading the first time, and it puts both his death and his teenager-in-love reason for the Walders’ revenge into perspective.

after 9-11 people were talking about ‘the death of irony’ in America. There were some things we’d never be able to joke about again

I haven’t ever seen the 12 Monkeys series, and now I have a reason to figure out a way to do that. I’m really impressed with Emily Hampshire on Schitt’s Creek and I think it’s all I’ve ever seen her in.

given how early Jake Pinkman vanished from the storyline.

if you don’t have Aaron Paul as Eddie you should just skip that anyway

I didn’t see the movie, didn’t want to, shouldn’t have, apparently.. but I will say I loved the trailer. And loved the casting of Elba and McConnahey. Too bad it didn’t work, and I’m not sure the series will work. Nice that they didn’t give up trying for years (see Golden Compass).

I dimly recall hearing that this episode took up a mess of the season’s budget (I mean, they knew it would be expected, they had planned for it). Money well spent - I’m pretty sure they even built some nearly full-size ships. Not ship sets but ships....

I love the way Alexis does that little thing with her hands when she wants something or is trying to be cute -a gesture like she’s got little cartoon kitten or mouse paws or something. There’s probably a word for it.

It took me a while to even check out the pilot on Netflix (no idea why, was it the title? I’m an SCTV fan from the beginning and love Chris Elliott). But I watched every episode that they have (4 seasons) with a happily growing affection for the show and the characters.

Conan is so natural with his guests compared to the other hosts.

author of the sequel novel specifically wrote it like this in response to the movie with the intention of basically making it an unfilmable wreck.

I might have been watching it wrong, but Forrest Gump was a pretty dark movie, to me. I saw it in a theater a few weeks after it opened. The crowd was sparse and there was no patriotic fervor or clapping that I understand happened at the beginning of the movie’s run. That is, we all liked it but didn’t take it as the
