I think it has to be dishonest. It becomes less of a sales pitch if you say “Everybody gets insurance, just like they have in France (where the doctors go on strike every couple years, including this month!), but you still have to go find other coverage to get your eyes and teeth checked.”

Just look to any of the thousands of private insurers who offer supplemental coverage in Canada, the U.K., Germany, Japan, France, and so on. When Bernie promotes a universal health care model based on its success in other countries, that success includes private insurance. What “universal” care means in that context…

My point is, when Bernie and his campaign tout his system by listing these countries, they’re leaving out a crucial detail: Bernie wants to abolish private insurance — said so again last night — and all of these countries offer it to supplement their public plans.

Medicare for All, with private supplemental insurance...you know, pretty much the way it is in every country Bernie Sanders points to as evidence that this can work. 

Maybe. I can’t remember who it was, somebody who never won a lot of titles, like Piper, who said that if he needed a title to get over then he wasn’t over. There’s something to that. And I think it kind of diminishes your top guy if you have 10 champions walking around. But I’m old, so...
