Thanks for the reply. If I’m understanding, basically the answer is “both”, based on where you’re climbing and what your goal is. There are technical rock climbing routes for the Alex Honnold types and routes for tourists types that are more a matter of one foot in front of the other.

Maybe you can answer a question I’ve always felt too stupid to ask...I’ve messed around in climbing gyms plenty, belaying, climbing up walls, bouldering, etc. Is that the kind of climbing they’re doing on Everest? Because that picture makes it look more like a cold hike.
