Here’s the deal. Hardibro hit the nail on the head. Top Gear hasn’t been good for a while. I found and fell in love with Top Gear around season 12. There were 3 or 4 more good seasons before it seemed like they just decided to outright drop the illusion that any of it wasn’t scripted.
