David,

I actually just finished it. My 358,000 mile ‘95 Jeep Grand Cherokee was in need of some items, so I just went at it.

Funny you mention.  The XJ 4 doors always did seem to have a slightly nose-high attitude from the factory.  I remember several of these Wagoneer Limiteds that had that when new.  I figured it was because the ride was set to “Detroit Cushy”.

Jesus.

Here’s a thought - just make the whole plane first class, as in give people a little space - and be happy you can operate.

Two transmissions in 358,000 miles, I won’t complain.  This last one only has about 30,000 miles on it.  We service it pretty regular with ATF4, and it seems to do fairly decent.

Thanks, man!

As to the cooling problem, it actually cools VERY well.  The issue with the radiator was that the one that was replaced had about 200,000 miles on it, and was starting to clog.  So, I bought a new one, installed it, and it had a manufacturing fault and was leaking from the neck.  I just finished up

This has honestly been an amazing vehicle.  It HAS ate a couple of transmissions, and has had one rebuild on the Dana 35.  But by and large, I can’t complain at all.  We’ve simply done regular maintenance, kept it washed, and just driven the shit out of it.

It’s a bit tight up front, but the rest is a cake-walk. It might interest you to know, the furthest this engine has been apart is the valve cover, and the exhaust manifold. We did a compression test on it 3 years ago (at 354,000 miles) and found the compression reading to still be within new-build spec for an AMC

David, funny you mention the maximization of time. Over the last few years, I have worked on the ‘95 ZJ, and fixed many problems owing to its 358,000 mile existence. I took a short hiatus from it after completely replacing the cooling system only to get a brand new radiator with a pinhole leak right at the neck -

Ahhh, HOA hate! My FAVORITE kind!

To all you HOA “they signed it” ass-kissers, please know that I hope you are reveling in the fact that the HOA is fucking with someone attempting to be prudent while selflessly helping others.

Also, I hope you see how badly you HOA dwellers are getting fucked. You CAN disband them,

David,

As the token pickup truck driver, I will be glad to say that this is ridiculous.

HAHAHAAHAHAAH, oh my god, HAHAHAAHAHAAH!

What kind of idiot do you have to be to compare my freedom to drive a pickup truck to not having morals or ethics?

You’re seriously going to lecture ME about driving a truck with a modern engine, with modern manufacturing tolerances, and modern emissions controls and modern

I do not leave my hitch on. Aside from the obvious shin-denter.....fuckers steal them!

And having rented a few Rams, I must concur.  The Ford does steer better....although the turning radius is somewhere between Titanic and Hindenburg.

The height thing is a small pet peeve of mine, which is one reason I picked a 2 wheel drive truck.  It’s already hard enough to get in, and I’m over 6 feet tall!  I HAVE to use the side-bars, or I’ll risk damaging the seat over time.

I will admit, that IS impressive.  Not a terrible looking car either.

Yep, I am in the second group. I live in the country, and drive about a hundred mile round trip to work and back. Cruise control on for about 95% of the drive.

Consider the other truck I mentioned owning - it was a 1984 Ford F-150 Supercab with the 8 foot box and a 5.8L engine. Compared to that truck, this truck is a

I don’t mind admitting, I’m enjoying getting people torqued up!

Pardon me, but I’d like to to just mention, that one of the things involved here is the freedom of choice. Which is the cornerstone of America.
