Often times, when you see a temp tag on a car, especially one on FB Marketplace, it’s because that person is a flipper. They’ve just bought the car at auction and are trying to make a quick buck. Caveat emptor, because the seller has done absolutely nothing to the car in terms of repairs or reconditioning.

Now playing

You sweeeet killer! We all want to be you. Despite everything we are told is wrong with confronting a perp of any kind I still trust my ability to judge the threat in front of me and then respond appropriately and with strong regard to my employer’s wishes:

Stupid, yes. Understandable (by me)? Also yes.

The secret with Rock Auto is once you pick what you really need, try to get everything else from the same distribution center if you can. The have a little icon that pops up, you might pay a few extra bucks for a part, but you save $10 on another shipping location. They also send out 5% off coupons pretty frequently

I could not agree with this more. When I was young and a poor, I figured I could buy some relatively new Corolla or whatever, or I could enjoy well-depreciated nice cars. Owned many a Peugeot, Saab, Volvo, old BMWs and Mercs and figured out how to do as much wrenching on them as I could myself. Cars are just not that

Yup. They don’t care. I had a hit and run with a VIN-stickered chunk of the offending vehicle stuck in my vehicle. Cop himself pulled it out. I called every week for months to follow up. Could never get them to actually do anything even though they ID’ed the guy on the scene.

I believe that one is in the public domain....

Doesnt have enough power to pull a greasy string put of a cat's ass.

I think you’re confusing the 5.0L M113 with the 6.0L M275 V12 which initially used coil banks instead of individual coil packs. The M113 uses individual coils and they’re about $70/ea from Mercedes.

Okay, thanks.

I pulled the VIN and it does not appear to have ABC. Hell, it’s actually a pretty base model without the sport package since they probably figured they’d be trashing the sport bumpers and wheels anyway.

You are thinking of the heinously expensive ignition coils in the V12 S600, those are 1 coil per bank. This is the V8 M113, with 1 coil per cylinder, $35 each from Bremi (OEM supplier).

Would it be possible to delete the hydraulic suspension for some coil overs to avoid the hassle of upkeep?

masturbation with a cheese grater....slightly amusing but mostly painful.

I am so glad that the w210 wagon I had never had the hydraulic pump go out.

Nice Ford Fairline reference :D.

Dont forget about the Mercedes ABS controller that will auto-fail and fuck the whole car.And you can't use a used one

All of this. There is a decent condition CLS500 sitting in the yard across the street from me that the owner has been trying to give to me but the ABC system is shot on it and after looking through YT vids and Merc forums on how to fix it, even free (well, given certain title issues that also make it unpalatable)

Obviously doesn’t take all the risk out, but a lot at least. And the motor being stock probably does as well.

I think the ABC (which is obviously a big deal if it has issues) was standard on the S600 and on the AMGs, but optional on the S500? Maybe I’m thinking of the S55? I’m not sure, but I remember digging into it a little bit at one point and I think it’s a question whether it has ABC or not.
