So depressing/annoying story - I live off of Haight street in San Francisco, and as I’m coming back to my apartment after a walk in the park this morning I see this guy below. As I walk by he yells at me: “Maybe this sign will help change things!”

Some of us have to be fake to some degree to get along with society which demands the same traits/qualities from everyone. Often it’s done without any evil intent but just to fit in.
I read Chelsea’s comment to imply that her mom presents one face to the world - extremely friendly, fun, liberal, generous, kind, etc. - but isn’t that way at home with her children, or at least as a mom to Chelsea. That’s common in families and with celebrities.
It’s also worth nothing that for those of us who are depressed, introverted, or some combination of the two, society has expectations of gregariousness and an “always smile!” attitude for everyone that don’t come very naturally for a lot of us. And the toll of having to keep up appearances in public can be extremely…
The fact is - we live in a world where both at work and socially - inauthenticity is both demanded and exceedingly rewarded.
There’s no longer any stigma or even slight social penalty, so of course people are gonna be machiavellian fools - it’ pretty much perceived as weak or idealistic not to be. (Which sucks rocks…
Unpopular opinion: I wear stretchy pants, but I do so with butt covering tunic tops (my legs are in good shape), and it’s mainly because I have gained weight and don’t fit into my real pants anymore :( money for shame induced new wardrobe binges doesn’t come easy
Yea, I’m enamored with that house, but thoroughly confused as to his revenue stream.
I don’t get the tone, but I’m like happy for the dude.
Money on the kid died years ago.
Thank you. I will honestly also say that I never knew why Vintage should be sold on a site that was supposed to be all about Handmade. Now I love vintage items and I used to be an eBay vintage dealer years ago. But on Etsy, your 1990s generic-looking denim jacket is “vintage.” Your 1980s, made-in-China costume jewelry…
Good for frenemies so you know when to stop talking about them behind their backs.
it’s actually racist to notice that Chinese people don’t queue well.
This might be the first time I’ve ever related to Kim. Everyone I know loved pregnancy and felt fantastic and glowed, but I was bloated and puffy and in pain and vomited for 8 months.
Caleb loved history but now he’s history- is it bad that this made me lol?
And when it infects the rest of the fruit with its garbage melon flavor!? I love me some watermelon and I can be good with a cantaloupe, but not with the rest of my fruit and never, EVER, honeydew.
Yeah, that sure is a penis.
Can’t wait to see the tech workers wandering aimlessly around the city trying to figure out how to get to the south bay.
Yeah, no kidding. I WISH smartphones had been available when my kids were little. Sitting on those park benches while they played on the playground sure got boring. It wouldn’t have occurred to my own mother to sit on a park bench to watch her kids play because parents didn’t really interact with their kids’ play…
The salary of a public bus driver for Muni, SamTrans, AC Transit and VTA (all the public bus agencies these tech shuttles operate in) is SIGNIFICANTLY higher than what’s even being proposed here (~$75-100k/year). And yet they can’t find enough people to drive buses still.
Now that I think about it, that’s probably why my mom started making my brother and I wash our own sheets when we were teens...
