i think the issue is that bikes are tighter to your vehicle and not always in your line of sight. it’s easy to glance behind you before opening your door and not see a cyclist.

as a cyclist, i can attest that drivers don’t use them when exiting their vehicle. they just swing their doors open. also, people in the backseat don’t have mirrors near their doors.

gyms have their own routesetters, and ratings really just depend on those individuals. you can go to some gyms and the routes are very soft and others where they’re sandbagged and you can’t get up a V2. then again, you could be a good climber.

i think the issue is that you look at the videos of people doing this and you see tons of people holding the fence. it’s like going anywhere that has a danger sign, but everyone’s doing it (waterfall/cliff jumping come to mind).
