You can’t just call random people on the road around you with a cellphone. Also they’re still useful for backcountry driving where there’s no cell signal.

If my local NPR stations were still on AM my radio would be on close to 100% of the time.

Okay, cool that it works that way in (most of) New England. That doesn’t mean anything I’ve said is incorrect. Obviously if you come to a Rocky Mountain state and just walk into a street people will stop before running over you, but you’ll be seen as dumb and rude. The law here also says that pedestrians technically ha

I’m accidentally listening to the entire episode.

I still sometimes recreate the old Sunday morning lineup of my local NPR station from the archives available for each show. Prairie Home Companion followed by Car Talk at 11, and This American Life at noon. Those three together still sound like weekends as a kid to me.

1. They technically have the right of way, but the culture most everywhere outside of California is for pedestrians to wait until there are no cars passing. Getting used to the suicidal blind faith California pedestrians have in drivers paying enough attention to stop takes some time to get used to.

Way way way too many people just assume “newer = better.

When I moved to CA it took me a loooong time to get used to all of the pedestrians just walking out into 40 mph roads without looking at all.

I actually have my adblocker off right now because the commenting system is completely broken with it on. But you’re right, I just noticed Firefox automatically blocked Facebook.

Hell, I’d say anything more than oil changes and brake pads for the first 100k is excessive for a modern car. I have not heard good things about Fiat reliability - the new ones, not just the ones from the 70s.

I miss Griff’s. All of the Colorado locations closed a few years ago.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t see any bozo with a home depot bucket anywhere in this post. Maybe a linked video isn’t loading or something?

You should try reading more gooder. I said friends of mine in Brooklyn have been asked if we have elevators, by people from NY. My friends are not the stupid ones.

Obviously they didn’t do that for fun, I’m just saying I live in an area where it does snow but that wasn’t enough of an issue here for it to be common knowledge as far as I know. If I lived further East I would be much more worried.

As a liberal who lives not-on a coast, “coastal elitism” is absolutely a thing. I’m from a city of several hundred thousand people in the middle of the country, and friends of mine in Brooklyn have been asked if we have elevators here. I was once asked if we have buses. The lack of understanding of how life is in the

If you pick the right old cars they can be really easy to maintain, in terms of parts availability at least. You could build almost an entire model T or model A from scratch with available parts, and some are even kept at regular parts stores. There’s a pretty wide selection of tires available too.

I’ve heard that about the frames too, but I haven’t seen it be a problem here in Colorado. I think you only really need to worry about it if you live in one of the states where they salt so much that every car has frame issues after a few years.

Good on you for keeping a good simple car even though you can afford something nicer now. That says all I need to know about your character I think.

I didn’t know they had a legislated expiration date, how old is that?

You could replace the headlights with lasers and the reveal would still seem appropriate.
