Those bridges on Storrow provide endless hours of amusement for the locals. There used to be a radio station that had a constant watch in the fall, and held a contest every year to guess when the first truck would hit the bridge.  What made it even funnier is that the closest University to the bridges is Harvard.

But is it worth the publicity fallout?

No. There is literally the exact same amount of energy in both scenarios. Unless you change the mass or the delta-v between the two objects the amount of energy in question is exactly the same. That is literally basic high school physics. The first goddamn thing you learn about physics is conservation of energy.
