that escalated quickly. I went from trying to better understand why an album could have possibly lost in a musical industry run by traditionalists to a troll. cool.

I’m glad it meant so much to you. I realize Beyoncé embodies a lot for people.
what about Kanye?
this is why we need to stop putting importance into awards, they’re rarely reflective on what makes good art - art.
and when did the Grammys ever go for risky? no one should be surprised. that’s like being surprised when La La Land wins literally anything.
yeah I can listen easily all the way through as well, I just wonder what it might be like to have heard it purely and not seen it first and then do the same for Adele. I guess I’ll never know!
stylistically Lemonade is not cohesive, she does rock, country, contemporary and even some gospel inspired work in that album.
I’m asking this question all over the place so forgive me - but I’m really wondering if the visual album part was included in considering Lemonade. I think this makes a big difference. I think Lemonade is a lot less cohesive as purely audible (And for good reason, she jumps style continuously through out). I think 25…
agreed.
but are we talking about Lemonade the visual album or Lemonade the album? I think that changes things. I have no idea what was involved in the process of voting but I do think in terms of being cohesive and by performance - if I were purely listening to these two albums, it might be a closer vote than you think. I…
but literally everyone and their mother could sing the chorus to Hello. like it or not - it is iconic in that way.
haha right?! I’m confused by that too.
Billie Holiday for one. talk about pain. ah, my heart.
I mean she sang beautifully! it looked beautiful! but it just didn’t do it for me.
I am not, so perhaps I’m missing the political implications of her performance. what I saw was a woman celebrating motherhood. that said if Lady Gaga had done this I would have felt the same way (Lady Gaga means a great deal to me personally ... and I still want to throttle her much of the time).
this is where it can get sticky though, is it about black motherhood or Beyoncé motherhood? I got a bit lost in knowing what this was exactly about tonight.
I’m glad it made you feel empowered though. I just don’t dig celebrity Beyoncé I dig artist Beyoncé.
I think Lemonade felt like it represented more than just her personal experience, It went beyond it. becoming a work of art. maybe it was the introduction from her mother that set it up to be read this way, or given the fact that the other women on stage were her handmaidens - not her equals (whereas in other…
it feels like too much, I get many people care about the image and celebrity. I respect Beyoncé as a performer, but I don’t care about her babies. motherhood is great and all but not everyone cares? I don’t know, family is great. but this doesn’t feel like it is just about family, it feels like it is about only them.
I love Beyoncé. I love Lemonade and her albums. I’ve been to concerts of hers. I know all the words.
