Duly noted. Again, I might not agree with your criticism but it makes sense for you, culturally, to have it.

Honestly, I didn’t know black mothers had these experiences, and didn’t recognize how black motherhood was portrayed in the media. I thought her photos were pretty. But then I read a couple of reactions to her photoshoot, and learned that those pictures were more than just something pretty. In my opinion, her…
An important thing to remember: the “altar of motherhood” in American culture has never included black motherhood. Black mothers have been vilely denigrated by our culture. This is what it looks like when we elevate black motherhood to the same level as white motherhood.
Esperanza Spaulding! She’s great. And she won. Once :) But you are correct. I just wish the Recording Academy used their platform to promote art and challenge people, instead of rewarding the best selling music and get them the highest ratings.
Right, I think the issue isn’t that people aren’t understanding why the Grammys are very limited in the way they rank music, but that people are complaining *that* the Grammys are so limited. So yeah, it makes sense that music traditionalists don’t get Lemonade, but that’s precisely the problem. And it’s not just this…
This is all accurate.
i think 4 is her best album and has aged SO WELL! and i like self titled better than lemonade tbh. like i said, i really like lemonade, and as a visual album it’s stunning and gives me the chills. but the tracks on their own are standard pop (WHICH IS FINE! lol thats not even a diss! it’s just not revolutionary)
I kind of always assumed they just give the Grammy to the person who sold the most. Hence Taylor Swift over Kendrick last year (much more of an error than this imo) and Adele sweeping this year.
Both of those albums were put together by a team of the best producers, songwriters, art directors that money can buy. I’m not hating on Beyonce at all but the blind worship is ridiculous.
beyonce has gotten to the point where you cant say ANYTHING that isnt “SHE IS A GOD I WILL SACRIFICE MY CHILDREN FOR HER’ without being attacked. it sucks. such adoration is so fucking boring
so agree. lemonade as a visual album is awesomeeeeeeeeeeeee. but take out the poems and the videos and it’s a pretty standard pop album. plus it had double the amount of people writing songs than 25 did.
Ever wonder if the visual piece hurt her, and the audio release being tied to a specific service?
Really? I know maybe two to three person who singed Hello on the top of their lungs. And after two weeks everyone and their mother had enough of it. It was different with Lemonade: even people who were not fans and actually knew nothing about the process, the politics and everything behind it, agreed that it was a…
“I think it can cloud this issue of this being about black motherhood, or just about Beyonce.” Beyonce is a black mother. So....
Including my 4 year old son who sings it as: “paddle from the other side.”
BUT when artists like Beyonce have such big dreams, big goals - she doesn’t say it, but we can see it through the tears in her eyes and how Jay-Z closed his eyes in tears as soon as Adele said “Lemonade was monumental” - Michael Jackson always tried to top himself after Thriller - it doesn’t seem fair.
Don’t get me started on how stabby I’m going to feel when La La Land wins best picture.
1.) I never mentioned Yonce’s pregnancy, I’m talking about her mom’s introduction of her being extra. Again, not here to hear Mama Knowles brag about her kids, and 2.) The performance itself was a bit indulgent.
