yes I have. like I’ve said many times now, I thought her choice of imagery was beautiful.

it is understood. I understand that none of this stuff exists in a vacuum. it is a complex conversation needed to be had in all our various cultures and races. I think there is room for both praise and criticism on all fronts. I would love hear and learn more about motherhood through the eyes and perspectives of women…
and I think that is well deserved and about damn time.
it was in that it dropped all at once, but they were separate videos. Lemonade (the film) felt like one long poetry filled event.
also thank you for being engaged and talking about this with me, I feel like I’m learning a lot and I’m grateful that you were willing to do so.
she was literally the one person I could think of when it comes to giving awards to “unknowns.”
there is a fine line. I am an artist and my work can be indulgent as all hell, it gets crossed all the time. often the greater artists are prone to it because it is often so personal, I think this happens a lot.
I think she should make what she wants, I just may not always be here for it. that’s totally ok. The altar of motherhood is already a huge part of society and our culture. I don’t feel particularly compelled by Beyoncé dressed as a mother goddess being worshipped - though speaking with other people on this thread I…
haha you’re probably right. I think awarding art in general is a terrible idea, period. art that lasts ultimately matters more than any award.
.
THIS. this is what I’m trying to ask.
I think her message is revolutionary, much of her music in Lemonade kept stylistically with her self titled album.
I never suggested it was. Nor have I ever believed the Grammys or any award shows for that matter, tend to award great art. they don’t. the sooner we stop caring about awarding art the better.
I’m saying award shows are generally wrong yes - but that I can see how, by purely listening to the two albums and removing the visual aspect of Beyoncé’s work, which is frankly how many of us were introduced to the music - a bunch of musical traditionalists would have voted for Adele over Beyoncé. I harp on the…
I also think it is disrespectful to her as an artist. Art is meant to be looked at and discussed and debated over. to me that’s a sign of respect. I love a lot of musicians and I will often ENJOY discussing their work and what I like or don’t like about it. full out adoration though? no thanks.
I never said it was better so...?!
because I think it might to the people who voted for the Grammys? I’m trying to engage in some critical thinking about politics, awards - and what qualifies as “music” in an industry that has changed rapidly over the years. then they voted for the most traditional looking and sounding album nominated. I see no issue…
I understand it, this does not mean I worship at the altar of Beyoncé - although I am a fan. I am generally against the worship of parenthood in society as a whole. But I can see why it would mean a great deal to the black community. Beyoncé clearly represents to a lot of people the symbol of a loving black family the…
I think a lot of people are missing the point I am making, which is when we say LEMONADE SHOULD HAVE WON, what are we referring to? Hell, I think Lemonade should have won, but god forbid I actually try to seek out answers for how it may have been viewed without the context that came with the visual album.
