Im glad to see us getting away from most video games being a means to shoot anthropomorphic shaped “enemies” for hours.

ME TOO! I actually read morte d’arthur in uni. Its absolutely wierd how often terms from that period just get shoehorned into media and i get to chortle a little.

I would say twice a year i take time to lament that final fantasy tactics didnt have broader appeal and get a spun out genre.

so while i see what you mean about how it may not be a nefarious act, this is definitely political. I mean they confirmed in the statement that it was because of current events.

My conspiracy brain thinks this smells fishy.

I think this may be a reaction to informed consumption. More and more lately folks are doing away with products over idealistic reasons unrelated to the product.

Lemme just put a disclaimer first, I think Nintendo has been terrible to consumers.

I think it seems childish. Regardless of whatever canon you prescribe too regarding age of trainers the clothes they wear are unquestionably more mature than floppy hats shorts pants and tube socks.  The clothes from the old trainers also seemed more adventure appropriate.

I actually loved armored core. I was super into mech games around 2004 ish.

I think the padding is a side effect of trying to keep audiences distracted.

To look at it another way this is a saturated market. Games devs are driving their quality off a cliff in a race to that perfect spot in between development effort and audience addiction.

big question is would you prefer a world in which you had fewer games of higher quality? I been thinking lately i would probably just consider paying the monthly cost of a GaaS title like WoW used to demand. (i think it was 15$CAD/month though so maybe cheaper) Similarly, narrative games like guardians i would likely

Just think about the nature of that purchase.

to me mobile and gaas are the equivalent of penny dreadfuls to literature or soap operas to TV.

I thought so too. I actually made a whole separate post about just that thing.

TL;DR - My completely amateur assumption is ancap mythos validation.

Caught myself humouring NFTs the other day. Basically i imagined how it would potentially be kinda cool to have some token to show off in the future for having been part of a cool in game event. I narrowed the problem down to money and how mining would be useless without the “investment” nature of blockchain token

my god.... this is why everyone hates dark souls! They just need some green blossom for an endurance buff.

the tarnished are like the darksign from the dark souls games. Basically some amorphous destiny or prophecy about one of many among a population who are ‘tarnished’ (the player char) is going to rise up and kill the listed important people who usually have cool backstories.

People who have played fromsoft games for a long time have an easier job parsing through the lore, just like with mastering the gameplay. The same comparison holds for community, there are always new things being discovered, even years later. Its also true of the difficulty curve, where both gameplay and
