I wonder, is that something she was told by a friend or someone “just trying to be helpful” by giving seemingly pragmatic or practical advice. You often hear that type of thing: “you should get a cleaner haircut before that interview” “you shouldn’t wear THAT dress, you should wear THIS dress”.
