I have a few stories so bear with me here!
I have a few stories so bear with me here!
So I live in England, where everything is approximately 1000 years old and haunted up the arse, so I've seen some stuff (weird, unexplainable stuff) but probably the most extended haunting experience of my life was the time I worked in a possessed cinema.
I'll start here: I don't believe in ghosts. I don't believe in souls. I don't believe in the afterlife. I don't feel "connected" to spirits or anything like that, and this is the only time I've had anything like this happen. But ... it happened, and it scared the piss out of me.
First of all, I have been checking the site multiple times a day to see if this thread was up yet, because it is my yearly tradition to curl up on my couch, eat Brach's pumpkins and freak myself out.
OK, wow. This is a lot of stories, and I'm not sure this is gonna get seen. But here goes. I served in the Peace Corps in Rwanda 16/17 years after the Genocide. A lot of really creepy stuff happened to me in the two years I was there. Here's one! :)
Who wants to hear about the ghost that followed me home? Great.
This happened in my junior year of high school.
OK, this isn't a ghost story but it is supernatural. It's my dad's story, and he is an avowed atheist and skeptic but he's had a few things like this happen to him, so I believe him when he tells me.
One experience that has haunted me for years: When I was 19, I had a one-bedroom apt in NY with a roommate. I had the bedroom, she had the living room, and there was a long narrow hall between the two rooms. A few months after we moved in, this woman upstairs who was 26 and very dramatic, started asking to borrow our…
My sister and I used to take road trips together a lot, and at one point we were driving up I-25 in northern New Mexico just south of Wagon Mound. Anyone who has driven that stretch (well, or pretty much any rural stretches of I-25) knows that there are a bunch of abandoned farmhouses sprinkled along it here and there.
Okay, I'm probably going to get lost in the grays, but here's one of the spookiest things that ever happened to me:
Let me just start and say that I'm a long-time Jez lurker, and I absolutely love this annual thread. I decided to create a login here and post my story this year. Hope you peeps like it.
Alright, this will never be read, I don't know why I bother.
I made an account just to post this- it's a 100% true story.
I'm an archaeologist (in my heart—being able to implement what I learned is another whole story, for the jobs aren't there, and a good friend in the field passed away doing something else entirely, burning the candle at both ends, and leaving behind a family at that). Generally speaking, I like to compartmentalize…
My childhood home had a spooky history to it. It was an old Victorian house, painted purple of all random colors, that was built on a an interesting piece of land with an interesting history.
Once upon a time, a group of rich businessmen decided to take over their nation's government, media and legal system... STOP ME IF YOU'VE HEARD THIS ONE...
my response to this EVERY YEAR!
When I was 7 I was cutting construction paper in art class with my kinda-sorta friend, Andrea. We were talking about our older brothers and she freaked me the fuck out by telling me about how her brother would see the Devil in his room all the time, peering around the door at him. Fast forward 16 years to 2004 - her…
This is the creepiest thing in my life lately.
I live in a cheap-ish apartment building. Meaning, there's not a lot of privacy. You can't hear everything everything, but if someone is yelling or they knock something over, we know.
For the first six months we lived here, the neighbor who shared the wall behind our…
