Their methodology eliminated any car not in continuous production for the past 5 years (and however they define “low volume”). Pretty much removes an entire segment?

I’m no Tesla lover, but curious how “reliability” is defined? Is it by number of recalls? If so, recalls is a weird metric to use with EVs because so many of the “recalls” are simply fixed via OTA update and invisible to the customer. Anyone know how this is defined?

I’m one of the folks that bought a brand new Kona EV and took a $15k hit on the valuation in the first year.

Respect the GOAT. The LS400 will cart you and yours through town and across the country forever, and they’ll still carting your descendants through the wasteland in comfort long after civilization collapses.

How exactly is having motorcycles legal in the US a good idea??? In an accident they are probably the deadliest vehicle you can purchase under any rule. This is why most nations with a national health system shouldn’t allow you to purchase a motorcycle and ride it on public roads. As everyone else will end up paying

Oh, yay, I hope this is the first of many!

Autoblog was my go to site until its redesign. That killed it for me; I might go there, but maybe not, and it was down the list of choices.

All forms of writing, including journalism, are art. If you’re as old as me, you remember the heydays of Road & Track and Car and Driver, when they had really good writers doing the journalism, and even better writers doing editorial and storytelling pieces. But really good writers cost money, and that eats into

Man, for years my normal first two sites I opened rotation was Autoblog and Jalopnik. As you mentioned, there was a strong difference in the two blog styles that complimented each other very well and left us, the readership, with a wealth of information on all the goings on in the auto world.

That’s excellent.

I mean, she has real life experience.  It shouldn’t be surprising that she can jump start a car.

Hell, Trump’s wife was also an immigrant, though I suppose she demonstrated some “special skills” as a model and soft-porn actress to justify her visa. If there actually are millions of illegal immigrants in the US (they aren’t technically illegal if they are awaiting asylum hearing, but I digress) and they are

I wonder how many votes Bernie Moreno would get if those planning to vote for him after knowing he’s an immigrant since the right is so steadfastly against immigrants.

The next step is they’ll say that the Haitians are killing and eating the kids on school buses. I know RFK Jr. had brain worms and I’m pretty damn sure Trump does, and if someone still supports Trump they also have brain worms.

Meanwhile, Ford, GM, and the corpse of Chrysler are doing nothing about this, other than cranking out more overpriced ICE giant trucks, and will come crying to the government for bailouts when they can’t compete against Korea, Chinese, and Vietnamese manufacturers who offer basic electric cars that people can actually

First Gear: For the love of god, Tesla (and Waymo and the rest), stop forcing the public to participate in your half-baked experiments against their will.

1st Gear: Alternate title - “Make a Mediocre EV, Expect Mediocre Sales

Plug in hybrids are the worst of both worlds. Expensive and have all the wear parts of a gas engine. One that may not even run except once a month. There are a lot of good EVs that cost comparable to their plug in alternatives

I have a Polestar 2 and I would not say that it’s “overloaded with unnecessary bullshit.” All of the tech features are pretty standard-issue. Hell, unbeknownst to me my 2022 didn’t even come standard with blind spot warning, which is annoying since you can barely see out of the damn thing. Even the performance pack

Somebody needs to make a simple, affordable and not-ugly electric for the masses that’s not overloaded with unnecessary bullshit.
