With the Prius, Toyota built a fiercely loyal green customer base who would follow it anywhere. Instead of capitalizing on that and moving toward EVs quickly, Toyota said ‘this is it’. A smart company would’ve recognized this regardless of public policy.
Those Rhonda folks don’t need an EV, because they barely ever drive. The only reason Rhonda has a car parked 5 blocks away is because the city allows her to park it for free.

Cell phone batteries (especially old ones) are not EV batteries. Plenty of evidence of Prii running fine for more than a decade. Or (now) Teslas.
