I loved how Devilman Crybaby launched itself at light speed towards its surreal, sad ending. It reminded me of the last 3rd of Mother, where the whole world goes crazy and nothing can fix it.

Too bad I have to leave town for a week on the 26th...you’ll be in my heart the whole time, DBFz...
Beast Wars was amazing. The characters were fully-formed, the “survival” aspect of the show was cool, there were no annoying human characters, and the robots themselves looked much more interesting. (machine + machine was never as interesting visually to me as animal + machine)
Curse that first game with the power of a…
Great article! The SRK forums were like a haven for me growing up, as I lived in a rural area with absolutely no local scene and no way to learn how to improve at the games I loved other than SRK.
Between SRK and www.thefightersgeneration.com I was able to check out the world of fighting games long before online play…
Ken: “Hello? Who is this?”
Ryu: “Hey Ken it’s Ryu. I’m calling from a payphone in the woods. I have a question for you.”
Ken: “Dude, I’m not telling you how to make your shoryukens all fiery—”
Ryu: “How do sex?”
Ken: “...”
Ryu: “How do I...I mean, where do I...do the thing...”
Ken: “...”
Ryu: “...”
Ken: “This is the happiest…
You do not speak for an entire gender, thank you very much.
Cool! I love games that are mostly about exploring cool places. I like the colors too.
I suggested to a couple of competitive girlfriends that whoever lost in Street Fighter would go down on the other, and they were into it. I did this partly as a sexy silly foreplay thing, and partly so they wouldn’t punch my arm when they lost like they usually did.
I’m referring to the wealth of art and folklore that predates that man and the Meiji era by hundreds of years. Cool article though.
Japanese art is full of paintings of roving adventurers. How frequently those types of people existed is irrelevant to my comment, because I was talking about the many depictions of warriors in Japanese art and myth.
Were ronin or roving adventurers more likely to just carry swords? Maybe that contributed to the heroic image of swords as opposed to more “war only” weapons like the yari or tanegashima?
I dunno. Just making wild guesses here. But I feel like I’ve seen far more mythological images of heroes fighting monsters or…
This is exactly how I feel about TLJ and TFA. I wasn’t a fan of TFA’s slavish fanboyism, but the way Jedi twists the formula really enriches the previous movie.
Also, I LOVED that Snoke was just a lame, one-dimensional evil overlord dude who got offed in his own big boy chair. We did NOT need another Palpatine. It was…
I didn’t understand the Draw system for the first half of the game and basically ignored it until a boss bottleneck stopped me dead.
Then, two years later I re-visted the game and the Draw system just clicked. It was the first RPG I ever maxed out my characters in. By Ultimecia’s castle they were filled to the gills…
2017: Bad year, great games.
Nice! I really enjoyed Rising Thunder, and I’ll happily play it some more.
Now when are they gonna announce that League of Legends fighting game? :)
My gf thinks I bought her that SNES classic for Christmas so she can play Mario.
Little does she know its true purpose...
(tricking her into getting into FFVI)
For some reason I chose to main Jeffry McWild in Virtua Fighter 5, even though he’s probably the weakest character in that game. (it’s probs cuz his name is Jeffry Goddamn McWild and his storyline is that he’s obsessed with a shark)
I lost and lost and lost with this character until finally, after a week of playing…
And here I was hoping for Sodom. :’(
Cody, Falke, and G look pretty interesting though.
Fighting games “died” around the same time arcades did. Coincidence? And even during the lull before Street Fighter 4 blew the genre back up again in 09 the Tekken, Soul Calibur, and Virtua Fighter series were doing just fine.
2D games in general just fell out of vogue for a while, and Alpha 3 and Third Strike were…
The only way a sequel to Jurassic World could be interesting/sensical is if it focused on Bryce Dallas Howard’s character being sued and going to jail for criminal negligence/incompetence.
“So your employees couldn’t find the dinosaur in the cage?”
-prosecution
“That is correct.”
-Howard
“So they...went into the cage?…
