@falandil: I pined after that CD Player for ages — it was obscenely expensive as I recall, or at least for a high school kid. I used to go to Alterman Audio in Metairie (La.) to listen to it in their sound room. (Yeah; nerd.)

You can get a replica of the plate at EntertainmentEarth.com:

As I recall, one of the tech sites — can't recall which — reviewed it with a couple of points:

@nozer: Yeah, what nozer said. Though I don't carry it with me as much, I like the click wheel interface much more than the touch interface of the iPhone. But such is the future, I guess.

@Copernileo: I'm a lumberjack and I'm okay.

@bender123: I love how the next guy just pulls up and gets his order like nothing's going on.

@MikeSWelch: For one person, yes. For a family, it's a bargain.

@hardeho: "the theater experience"? You mean filthy bathrooms, $10 for popcorn, obnoxious people texting and talking during the show, unclean seats, etc.? (Am I misreading sarcasm?)

"It could answer momentous scientific mysteries of our universe."

@Dancing Milkcarton: What Dancing Milkcarton said. As with most things, everything has a trade-off. (Kind of like spending twice as much for a portable as a desktop; you're not paying more for the same computing power (per se), you're paying more for the miniaturization and etc.)

@usedtowork: Agreed more or less, but keep in mind Apple's primary target for this display — much like the 24" version it replaces — is MacBook/MacBook Pro owners.

@Daveinva: Love that whole sequence/episode.

@n3philimgirl: It might have all gone down differently — if the roles/casting had been reversed — if I remember the magazine articles from the time, they wanted Tasha ("Macha", or something similar, was a name I read) to be like the Vasquez character from ALIENS (which had just come out the year before; 1986).

Is this a joke? Just drive your damn car.

@ddhboy: Agreed; loved him on that. "That's a $3 pair of underwear you're ruining." Was hoping to see the show continue until Chris moved on past school.

@Charliehorse: Well added. Not every farmer is a chicken hick just watching paint dry and grass grow. There's a big business in farming and the need for HSI is just about the same as any other corporation. This doesn't even take into account schools and etc. that would benefit from it.

Will they stream them with CC or subtitles yet? I know I'm in the minority, but this is why streaming is kind of "meh" for me.

@IowaState11: It's a luxury tax. They'll find a way to tax just about everything.
