It seems to me that the affair only lasted the summer, but that Noah keeps coming back on vacations basically(or that's what they want the detective to think, that the affair has been over for awhile). I don't think Gillian had ever told Jimmy the whole truth about Nucky. What he did to her in detail, his greatest crime, his greatest corruption that allowed him to become so rich and powerful, but I'm fairly certain she told Tommy EVERY DETAIL.

Absolutely this territory is well-worn in the noir genre, they are standard tropes, but I love that genre personally. I always have.
