Yep that line really stuck out like a sore thumb.

I know. This show should have 500 comments. It's great. The IMDB board is pretty vacant as well. I feel like since HBO had simulcasted the first episode along with Cinemax, maybe it would've helped immensely to have done that for the entire first season as bait to get new Cinemax subscribers. I checked, btw. It seems

Oh sure, I'll be watching it because there was enough in S1 to have some hope, but I did not like the third act in any way, shape, or form. It could be that he just doesn't have it in him to end a story well, like Stephen King and many novelists seem to suffer from, specifically with regards on how to resolve a story

The last 3 episodes of S1 made me question that opinion, because the show seemed to devolve into a series of repetitive lines uttered earlier in the season coupled with a garish assortment of buddy cop tropes. My opinion became something like that I think he's probably an ok pop culture/philosophical collage writer

Ahahahaha @ the mean girls reference. You're soooo fetch, Trish! ;P

I wonder what level of viewership the show currently has?

Yes that for sure he did, but she seemed a bit more shaken-up than just first-time sex with a numbed vagina when she woke up the next morning. She's been pretty curious about drugs since she shot him up in the dick and followed him to the opium den, so I can't help but think she asked Thackery for a dose at some point

I love how every episode ends on a completely awkward note. The endings are completely atonal to the rest of the episode, almost like Soderbergh is purposefully hitting the wrong key on a piano. I just adore that. It's like his sign-off signature.

Yes I agree with you, SK. Thackery always struck me as more of a pragmatist rather than an outright racist, like he had more important things to deal with, discovering new surgical techniques, etc. He didn't want to be bothered with the daunting and time-consuming political and sociological task of fostering race

Me too! It's going to be an amazing movie all at once.

I assumed he did?!! She looked pretty shaken up the next morning.

He probably shot them both up and rubbed some on her down there.

Hahaha! Did you watch it? What did you think?

It puzzles me when some people say this show's characters seem cold. It's like they were judging it too soon, because I pretty much like almost every character on the show besides Gallinger. I'm fully invested in most of these characters which is almost the complete opposite of something like say Boardwalk Empire

I knew things were going to calm down once I heard the thunder roll in, and thank god for that, the mob riot might've kept on going into the night and perhaps even longer, multiple days back in those times.

Agreed. It's on track to best True Detective for sure in my opinion, but it's interesting you mentioned that show, because Ep 5 of True Detective eschewed it's slow-burn style up until that point for a high octane action-filled extravaganza just like The Knick's Ep 7. In both series I think the change of pace would be

This show, this show!!!

Oliver's show is the best. He's really outdone himself. I think it's superior to Maher's show, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report.

Great. Now that I know Sarah reads AV Club I will be forced to make my comments at least 200% more clever and snarky. I don't have time for that! Gah.

The McConnaisance was already well underway with The Wolf of Wall Street, Dallas Buyer's Club, Mud, Bernie, and Killer Joe, and Woody always has the capability to knock it out of the park if he feels like it. His indie choices have always been pretty sterling if you ask me.
