My engine has nearly 300K and I change my oil (10w60 syn) every 10-12K miles. It’s a daily-driven 32y/o car. You can go 5-6K just fine, dude.
I agree, my ‘85 325e ran on 15w40 or 20w50 reg dino oil for 30 years. Then LiquiMoly 10w60 full synthetic. I haven’t noticed any oil leaks, long as the filter is gudenteit! Most my engine’s relevant gaskets were replaced ~5 years ago to eliminate multiple previous oil leaks.
Ha! I had forgotten about that goofy blade. I used to see them on S10s and wondered why one side had an extra appendage.
I consider any C4 to be more attractive than ‘74-’82 C3s. Solid platform, great handling, won’t cook you in the summer. But to each their own. I could be biased because of my knowledge of underpinnings. I will agree that C3 have more style than any C4 tho.
Nah, I’d say the 2nd half of the C3 run. C3 have flimsy chassis and are considerably more difficult to DD comfortably than a C4. C4 can still handle like modern supercars.
Ha, no kidding. E30 dashes are some of the most crack-prone dashes I’ve ever seen.
I don’t drift or race mine. It’s a 9/10 condition ‘85 eta with an auto and 2.79 LSD diff. If I wanted to drift, I can’t because the tires won’t break loose. If I raced, I’d just lose (120hp). I love it just the way it is - a nimble daily driver with plenty of room for my 6'4" self.
Came here for this. Wasn’t disappointed. I _adore_ my early E30
Shoulda bought a Mustang. Maybe an Ecoboost one. Ha, just bustin ya balls ofc, what I mean is, torque, man. Revs sound awesome, but irl torque rules.
Dumb engine, dumb driver. No offense, but someone has to be a bad example. At least you’re useful!
BMW has done that for quite a long time. I think it’s quite clever by any application on a cold engine subject to any dumbass driver. That said, newest car I’ve ever owned was a ‘93 lol. I DD an ‘85 BMW
I agree! VTEC is a very remarkable system IMHO. Sure, clever application of turbo on any engine is way more versatile and potentially more efficient and quicker/faster, but it’s not gonna sing like a VTEC system on the cam.
I’m gonna rant and/or novelize here a lil bit. Just a forewarning, because I tend to do it. When I got something to say, I say it with DD torque, because I’m a diesel, not a sniper. Anyway, I’ve been a gearhead most my life. I ran 12's in a Bug in the early ‘90's. I’m nearing 42, and I’ve read every damn car…
Yeah, them older diesels were real hard on oil, but they managed to run hundreds of thousands of miles just fine. I ran Delo because way back I had a seasonal job being a grease monkey for a fleet of 30 log trucks. 6-8 Detroit V8 2-strokes, 20-ish Cat 3406, rest Cummins. The ol Detroits treated gallons of oil like…
As a man who has driven without a valid driver’s license for most (22/28yrs) of his driving life (legal now bcz Cali) my humble opinion is that people don’t take driving seriously enough.
Those poor in attention span can’t afford to pay attention. Especially not with today’s gadgets. I saw an asshole pick up his phone and start dialing _as the traffic light turned green_ yesterday on my way to work.. Just another day in a California commute.
The “Show Me” state takes bad driver accusations literally.
Ha! Yeah, that’s usually what I ran in my 250+K mile 240D back in the ‘90's. Delo 400 15W40. That 240D engine was the only car engine I ever saw that turned the oil black immediately at first start-up. Dirty engine, but tougher than a 2 dollar steak.
What I find ironic is that the flat-4 is a low-stress engine design and not particularly hard on oil. However, turbocharging definitely increases stress on oil. Maybe 1 out of every 5 Subarus I see in California are turbo models, tho.
