We’ve actually owned two former rental cars, both of them without issue.
Hey, if you really want to do it then by all means go for it! I’m just saying the same result can be had for less work. I’m not known for always doing things the easy way though so I fully under stand the fun, because I can aspect of it.
It’s dead reliable, has good aftermarket support, tough as hell, will run forever, makes a glorious noise. Certainly not my first choice for a swap, but you could choose worse. I didn’t mention weight, and the aluminum ones are actually pretty light.
Trust me, I’ve noticed, which is why I’d completely sworn of the 4.6. Gutless boat anchors in the trucks.
I knew the 4Vs were good and had some serious potential, I just wasn’t all that familiar with the 3Vs, especially the aluminum ones. My only experience with 4.6's has either been 2Vs or truck 3Vs, both of which left me very unimpressed. I formed a pretty blanket feeling that all 4.6's were bad (with the 4V exception),…
I’ve known that, and I’m not saying that the 4.6 is a bad motor, just that there’s usually a lot of better candidates. Although I recently learned that some of the 3V ones were all aluminum and have a good amount of aftermarket support so certain 4.6's aren’t as bad of a swap as I originally thought.
All of this I did not know, thanks.
Cool if you already have a 4.6, but if you’re going to do a swap why not just start with a 5.4? I’m not saying the 4.6 is necessarily a bad engine, but if you’re going to do a swap there’s a lot of better candidates out there.
Honest question, why not start with the 5.4? The 3Vs were already right around 300hp, make much better torque, can be found cheap, and have that much more potential. I’m not saying the the 4.6 is a bad engine, there’s just a lot of better swap candidates IMO.
The 4.6 isn’t really a bad motor per se, it’s just that it doesn’t make a lot of horsepower, or torque, and it’s physically very big. Overall it’s just not a good engine swap candidate, especially when you can get a car with equal or more hp/torque for a good price and without the hassle of swapping an engine.
Even though I’m generally a modular apologist, sell that 4.6 and get something that’s actually worth swapping. Or just throw it in the trash where it belongs and buy a car that doesn’t need a swap.* Most modern cars will offer the same or more HP, and torque than the 4.6 makes, the only thing that might be missing is…
It’s not me you have to convince haha.
I would buy one in a heartbeat (assuming the price is reasonable) but I’m not sure I can convince my wife a 5th motorcycle is something I need.
This makes me sad. :(
People have zero respect when it comes to U-pull it yards, I’ve seen so many good and hard to find parts destroyed because someone couldn’t bother to undo a couple of fucking screws and instead just decided to tear parts out with no regard to whether or not someone else might want that part.
This pisses me off to no end, especially on somewhat rare/hard to find cars, and hard to find parts. I had a 924 for a while, and found one in the local U-pull it, the interior was in pretty good shape, but was brown and mine was black, grabbed a few parts and left. A couple weeks later I found some black vinyl spray…
First car was an Aurora, really liked it but don’t miss it, it was really nice for its time, but not all that special anymore.
I’ve always been a fan of oddball trucks, and some of my favorites are the ones that make terrible terrible trucks. For example, the Lincoln Blackwood, The S10 Extreme, Dodge Ram Daytona (the ones with the wing on the bed) and the Harley Edition F-150. I love all of these, but I’m not embarrassed to buy them, I just…
