I think it goes to the notion of “women as ornaments, extension of a man’s life” as opposed to “a person with interests.”

I would put it like this from a woman’s POV — or my POV anyway.

The whole thing comes out of misogyny and other related ridiculousness. And yes, it’s all vapid and lame.

I got told “you’re too pretty to be worried about politics/reliigous studies/philosophy/gender studies . . . or anything bordering on intelligence.” And another was “I find it disappointing that you’re so academic. You really don’t need to be.”

I find it funny that men consider that an important accomplishment/attribute.

That’s one gorgeous cat and I’m so sorry that you had to let her go! It’s so hard losing our pets because we have the most unique kind of relationship with them! And, while alone and so soon after losing another wonderful pet — I’m so sorry!
