I agree. Lovecraft was really vague a lot of the times, but he had moments where he was pretty forthcoming with descriptions and action, and I think that's where a lot of the games and movies and what not end up taking their inspiration from, if only because those are the more tangible moments.

They're just worried about internal consistency. Ghost lore and alien lore aren't inherently linked. Not that you couldn't find a way to reconcile the two, but on a general level, you can establish a fictional world where aliens are real but ghosts aren't.

His prose really adds to the immersion, you've described it perfectly. It's like the way its written almost presents an immediate conflict with the material it describes. The stuffy, sort of faux-Victorian prose comes from a more devout era, and now it's being used to describe something that tosses those beliefs out

Eh, I kind of agree and disagree. I think the reason you get so many different interpretations of his work is because it was so vague but also specific in its own way. You got impressions of other worldly monsters and extraterrestrial beings, but rarely did you get a full on, action packed tale like a modern horror.

As much as I love Bloodborne's approach, the only disappointing aspect for me is the humanoid look of some of the enemies. The Moon Presence, for example, should be like, some weird, tentacle, eyeball thing like Ebrietas or Kos, but instead you get something vaguely humanoid, with a bunch of ribs sticking out. Maybe

I just finished Annihilation, literally a couple hours ago, and I felt the same way. Very Lovecraftian but in the way his original works actually were. It's sci-fi but in that ambiguous way where the alien elements they interact with are totally incomprehensible to us. More "The Colour out of Space" than "The Shadow

Obsidian games are still like that!

I rather like the empty rooms in Dark Souls/Bloodborne because of both the messaging systems and how the games are set up. They're already tense due to the difficulty, but then people start messing with you, leaving warnings about monsters or items that don't exist in that location, or maybe they're friendly and leave

I've never even beat XCOM because my crack team of top ranking soldiers always ends up failing horribly.

I was so hyped for Mankind Divided, but after putting about 22 or so hours into it I have slowly drifted back to Bloodborne. Almost done the DLC, then I can finally beat the game proper for the first time. Then I want to start a new character. Skill/Bloodtinge I think.

I like honey in things but couldn't eat it straight like that.

Those are the worst. And the stock flavour that each is based after is either BBQ or Sour Scream & Onion it seems, the two worst flavours.

Eh, I ain't afraid of no pink goo.

I'm just a classic McDonalds kinda guy, so their mcnuggets and sweet and sour sauce are the best.

Wendy's new fries are amazing. Their old ones were easily the worst fast food fries imo.

All the strongly flavoured chips are the best. Ketchup, salt and vinegar, all dressed and dill pickle are top tier flavours.

That's why I love them. Bonus point if they're the ultra crispy kettle kind that likes to break apart and scrape up your mouth for extra zing.

Yassssss

Oh yeah, there are some real bullet sponges if you're not prepared or underleveled. Even then they can be pretty brutal. I remember one boss took me almost an entire in game day to beat >_>
