This was like the perfect Riverdale episode. Corny music scene, adults acting ridiculously petty towards teenagers, Betty and Jughead slowly uncovering something that may or may not be a supernatural cult, Archie tries to win everyone in juvie over with a football game only to be recruited into an underground fighting

So you don’t like flavour?

I think that’s always been a big part of the game’s problem, a lack of direction. The vague descriptions of it at first are a part of why it had such a controversial release, everyone was picking and choosing what sounded neat about the game, creating this idealistic version of it in their head that the real thing

See, I disagree entirely with the idea that the supernatural cuts out the nuance of the mental illness angle, human tragedy or emotional investment. The supernatural elements are just a metaphor for that. It’s literally the oldest tricks in the horror playbook, going back to foundational horror stories such as folk

What would you suggest they have done differently? I’m of the belief that a supernatural ending doesn’t cut any of the previous nuance, the supernatural elements can still retain their metaphorical value. If anything I think going for an “It’s all in their head!” type of ending ends up being a cop out.

Dolores dumped most of her points into Strength and Constitution, Maeve went for Charisma and Intelligence.

I’m on reddit a bit too and I never got the overwhelming love for Aliens tbh. It always seemed like people worshiped Alien in the same standard way they revere someone like Kubrick. It’s also been compounded by my years taking film studies in university, where Alien is now like a canonical film you’ll probably watch

It’s a fine article but the opening lines are pretentious as hell. You’re better than this outdated genre/art film divide, Dowd!

That’s the whole point of Bill Paxton’s character, to be a cocky soldier who immediately cowers once things get overwhelming. It’s like naming the big character in a gangster movie “Tiny”. They know exactly what they want to do with his character and he does it... >_>

I find the “fans” annoying as well because it makes no sense that people can be fans of a series where they hate the majority of its output, but I’ve never felt that they want an Aliens retread, like your summation of what they apparently want is completely different from my experiences with them. To me it’s always

Aliens definitely has thematic depth, the themes around motherhood are obvious and there’s like this big obvious parallel between Ripley and the Alien Queen.

Exactly! I’m right there with you on every one of those elements. Plus it has a number of fun genre movie moments in its own right. Like the two bigger xenos killing the weaker one to escape, or the guy who lets his chestburster punch through another dudes skull. When you just look at it as a fun genre film, it

I do things like this too when I cook breakfast. I’ll even cook the bacon in the same time on the stove at a low heat. I feel like this is becoming a trend or something lol, cooking your individual breakfast items on a low enough heat so that you can get other things done instead of being at the stove the whole time.

The people who don’t like these movies somehow take them way more seriously than the people who do. >_>

This has me excited. I hope it’s the scene I’m thinking of.

You attack the reviewer, accuse someone of trolling, and then claim that the arguments defending the show are weak, all why failing to actually provide any reasons as to why the show is apparently so unsuccessful.

That was an annoying comparison. It’s very clearly an apples and oranges situation, it was pointless to bring up Gears of War.

I think it’s fine for games to only be fun with friends because tabletop games exist, which, for the most part, are only playable with friends. If they can charge 30 bucks for those (and that’s actually kinda cheap for a tabletop game) then I think it’s fine to charge the same for a video game, which also likely costs

Everyone is hating on the director but he brought us both Daredevil Season 1 AND Spartacus. Dude’s got pulpy action chops coming out the wazoo, he’s basically the next best person for this after Del Toro.

She literally chose to be in the movie because she loves the original.
