It is a fair point, the target demograpgic wants the rugged, outdoorsy look without the discomfort and inconvienience that goes along with owning a vehicle that is actually off-road capable. It is the modern version of vinyl wood trim or a landau top.

Agreed, it has the least desirable engine/trans combo. AOD is fine on a Mustang but a Bronco needs C6 or E4OD.

I find beauty in the minivan’s simple, functional design. CUVs on the other hand remind me of a fat person wearing clothes that are too tight: a sloppy ill defined mess that has bumps and bulges in all of the wrong places. Not unlike a large percentage of their drivers I suppose.

Moms are fooling each other to an extent; they haven’t yet collectively realized that they are driving the automotive equivalent of khaki cargo shorts. One day, hopefully in the not too distant future, they will realize how dorky their vehicles are and want something else.

I think this did happen about 10 years ago, the US helped with the rescue of a Russian sub. As I recall Putin was extremely reluctant to allow the US to help even though the Russian navy lacked the equipment to perform the rescue on their own.
