If you zone out 30 mins in, then study in chunks of 30 mins, and then give yourself a break. Get up, make a drink/snack, do something relaxing for 10-15 mins, then get back to it. Setting a timer might help. Don't beat yourself up - it's hard to get into study mode of you've been out of it for a while.
