Thank you vaguely remembered first year linguistics course! I occasionally explain what you did above (far less eloquently) to people sniping about 'bad English' when they are actually talking about a dialect with internally consistent (and often fairly complex) grammar and vocabulary. I'm a real hit at parties.

A language is a dialect with an army and a navy ; )

Aw, man, I have been there. I pretty much didn't eat a single vegetable for more or less the first twenty odd years of my life (I'm Scottish - that's pretty standard) and then fairly suddenly began eating healthily. I'd always been decently active, but I started more regular exercise around that time too. Big time

Where ye moving to, if you don't mind me asking?

Teacher here! Take time for yourself. Do whatever you enjoy and chills you out - go for a long run, take a luxurious bath, buy yourself some nice chocolate - whatever works! Get some headspace, then go back in to work refreshed.

That is just beautiful.

Dubliner here! (Well - Dubliner by adoption :))

Cruise is definitely the main character, but Blunt is repeatedly shown to be more badass than him. There are also no gratuitous naked scenes of her which would undermine the aforementioned badassery. I recommend you see it with a bucket of popcorn.

Just back from seeing it! Go go go. Emily Blunt is totally kickass, not ever shown nude for no reason at all, and there are many explosions.

I just finished teaching Of Mice and Men to one of my classes - began my last lesson with this on the screen:

Tinder seems to be the thing these days, from what I have gleaned in staff room chats (I live in Ireland).

Make a list of everything you spend for a week (make notes on a pad or on your phone - there might be some apps that you can use) and then take a really good look at it and ask yourself if there's anything you're overspending on. Could you buy cheaper versions of groceries? Avoid buying coffees? Go to free venues when

Don't worry - sometimes all you need to do is listen. I'm sure just your presence was helpful for your co-worker.

Vaguely related - I heard that there was going to be an American version of Love/Hate made. Because clearly you couldn't just show the original in America, begorrah bejaysus.

Oh - that's a hard one. I kind of do. The one I have right now is asleep on my feet and he's so damn cute - I'd love to keep him. Our first foster doggie was just perfect too, and I still feel heartsick about giving him back.

This little chap is our 9 month old foster puppy Hugo. He is a corgi/collie(?) mix and he is up for adoption next month!

I recently reconnected with some estranged family who had become Jehovah's Witnesses. We went to one of their weddings, and I was so worried about how to skip the inevitable (I thought) awkward 'hey come join our faith' chat. But actually it never came up at all. The wedding service was batshit insane (a whole lot

Same here! A coffee shop I used to work in (which was like Pensioner City during the daytime) had this sweet old guy who used to come in and slip enough Werther's Originals for all the staff to whoever was on the till. So glad I never had to deal with any of the crazy religious stuff.

I was thinking the same (secondary teacher). I spend maybe a hour tops at my desk during the day - the rest is leading lessons or helping individual students, moving between classrooms etc. The extra stuff at evenings and weekends (marking, planning etc) isn't too bad if I keep on top of it, and the holidays are nice

10 points to Gryffindor!
