Sorry to hear about your troubles. I had a big fight with my SO too, but my puppy (half corgi, half ... Something) is currently cheering me up by alternately savaging a tennis ball and falling asleep on my feet.

I disagree with you there, but at least we can agree that traditional gender roles are limiting for everyone.
Yes, because the patriarchy hurts everyone.
Kamil is half Iraqi.
This was not how I envisioned the singularity would happen.
As a teacher of teenagers, I've found that a LOT of detail generally means a lie when it comes to giving excuses for not handing in homework.
Those are some pretty sweeping generalisations about a group of often marginalised people.
Ooo what a cutie!
So much this. My partner and I can't adopt a dog at the moment for various reasons, so we do short-term foster for rescue dogs right now. We've had five dogs over the last year, all rescues and all gorgeous lovely pups. I have become a rescue dog evangelist and am now totally judgey when anyone I know buys a dog…

I just don't feel like these girls have their culture and religion recognised and valued often in the school. All the texts they read in English with non-white characters are about their experience of racism (Mockingbird, Roll of Thunder, Othello) rather than just as regular characters with other challenges. I just…
There needs to be an element of religious or traditional culture in so I can get away with showing it - I also just really want to show the girls a positive portrayal of a clearly non-Christian character. Any religious tradition apart from Catholicism is really sidelined in the curriculum I have to teach unfortunately…
Great link, thanks!
Thanks so much for all the great suggestions! I want to chuck out my lesson plans and just show these movies for the rest of the year :)
This has really opened my eyes to how few films I was aware of with a non-Christian girl of colour as the lead - thanks everyone for drawing my attention to all these great films.
Oh wow, that was my favourite movie when I was about that age! Great call :)
