Much as I love John Sim, that is all kinds of terrifying.

I imagine on one level it must be quite weird if people who previously wouldn't give you the time of day were now all over you. Wouldn't you always question if your friends really liked you for who you were?

I suggest a time limit which is agreed upon with your kids which you stick to rigidly. So, agree with them how much tv they can watch on weekdays (say 2 hours, providing homework etc is done) and how much at weekends (3/4 hours or whatever). Then maybe set a timer each time they go on the tv (an egg timer or online

You're right about the bluster - every fight or near-fight I've ever seen between men (and women, come to think of it) involves them puffing out chests, standing tall and holding out their arms. It's like those nature docs with male birds fluffing out their feathers.

I didn't know that! Thanks : )

One of the language teachers I know gives her students a task, to enter their favourite song lyrics into google translate, then re-google-translate the results back into English. The results are usually pretty funny, and hopefully show how terrible it is at translating for sense and meaning.

allowing her to camp a noble role, to have sublimated and have taught both drama

Andrea Levy's 'The Long Song' has an interesting character who I think exemplifies how a good deal of white people at the time who thought of themselves as anti-slavery acted. The character takes over running a plantation and believes that if he treats the slaves as people (but very much 'lower' and 'lesser' people)

we washed and wrapped the placenta everyday to keep it clean and placed it in a waterproof pouch.

From various headdesk-inducing conversations I've had with aquaintances and - yes - relatives on the subject, the arguments are usually along these lines:

That's an interesting view, thanks!

Learn a new language! memrise works well for me - short courses that you can do for a few minutes every day and a scoring system. Or there's lying on the couch and going down a Youtube rabbit hole, which is what I tend to do with time off : )

Anyone doing Nanowrimo next month? I am being an English teacher cliche of epic proportions and attempting to write. Hit me up!

Sort of OT, but . . . do you think it's ever possible to enjoy the art of someone that you personally disagree with/despise? I tend to think no; knowing that Cleese is racist sucks the joy out of his silliness; knowing that Polanski and Woody Allen are rapists/child molesters makes me avoid their films; knowing that

LOVING the awkward silence at 2.10. Go Steve!

I saw a comment the other day that Daryl from The Walking Dead is turning into a bit of a Mary Sue - interesting one as he moved from a character people were wary and suspicious of to a valued member of the group, and is arguably now verging on the Mary Sue. Cool presentation idea by the way - good luck with it!

So so cute!!

I am quite genuinely reassured to know that.

Not gonna lie . . . I'm a little bit turned out right now. * shuffles off to re-evaluate life *
