Started my first job ever and it’s amazing! Recovered only recently from a chronic illness that prevented me from working (I say recovered; really, it’s recovering) and I feel for the first time like a normal person. Makes me feel like I belong in the world finally.

I finally reached my goal. After 6-ish years? I got a new car and, more importantly, bought my very first house with plenty or land.

I was mostly furious and shaken up because an accident on the highway is somehow extra scary, but I’m otherwise fine.

I encountered a snake on the running trail and was startled but not scared like I always used to be! It looked harmless and had no interest in me, but also I used to have a very deep fear of snakes, and normally would have my legs going weak or stiff and unmoving. Takeaway : I’m changing away from the person I was

Great idea! My grandma passed away in April and she was very active in her church. The church started a little gift shop that sells religious statues, bracelets, rosaries, things like that and my grandma was in charge of running it. This past weekend, someone in the church had a photo of her enlarged and it’s hanging

This isn’t a brag, but 2 things that have made me very happy this week are my friend coming out of hospital, and going home, and another friend and her girlfriend got married yesterday and announced at the wedding they’ve been trying for a baby with the help of a sperm donor and my friend is ten weeks pregnant with

My brag is: I’ve decided, and laid plans, that after I finish the class I’m teaching this summer, I’m moving to a different city and waiting tables to pay bills while I write books during the day. PhD life is not for me, and while I will finish the dissertation, I’m not going to pursue that line of work.

Thursday on my way to work I was hit by another car on the highway, who then sped off at about 80mph before I could get the plate. My first (AND LAST I HOPE) accident ever. I don’t have collision on my insurance because my car is almost old enough to vote. It could have been worse, they hit on the driver’s side and if

I was approved for AISH (high end disability) recently, and this week my first payment, backdated to January, went into my account, so I paid off my credit card! And now I’m getting enough per month that I can save up some money for a while before getting my own place. (I’m in a rooming house.)

I got my cat a little window seat and put a bird feeder outside the window so she can have a great old time. She took to it immediately (which I was worried she wouldn’t) and now she sits on it watching birds while I walk on the treadmill and that makes me happy.

I got a 96.3% on my HESI and the dean extended me an offer to nursing school while I dropped off my scores. :) I AM SO EXCITED AND TERRIFIED

My aunt has finally died today early this morning. It was a very rough week with a lot of downs but also ups. We kept getting calls that it was time but it wasn’t. That gets wearing after awhile. Especially since it wasn’t her anymore. She was a bright and strong woman. It was a relief when it finally happened.

I’m in California so when I go hiking I take mace for the assorted critters, a stick, and a buck knife. Not that I want to have to deal with a rattler (or kill anything more than bugs) but snakes are among the easier venomous things to kill. Hold the head down with the stick and decapitate them.

I too think about these type of things. I can tell you what I would do. HAND TO PAW COMBAT WITH THE WOLF. Because I am liam neeson.

This kind of shit right here is the only situation where I’d consider have a gun on me (once I learned how to use it properly of course). Imagine hiking or getting into the woods by yourself and getting into this sort of situation with no recourse *shudder*

What a lovely anecdote.

So sad! I’m so sorry for his financé and family. He went to my high school; he graduated a few years before I did. I met him after Varsity Blues and Popular success. We chatted for a bit, and he seemed genuinely kind.

Well, there is such a thing as using a little of it. The face still moves, and it’s really not noticeable if you don’t already know. It just reduces wrinkling.

Yea. Also, I don’t really believe she reads the NYT. That was a prop.

This is why people hate PETA.
