I’d buy an FRS if it came with a normal inline 4 with or without a turbo. I do not trust the Subaru engine in it to last as long as a toyota engine should.

Agreed. I said the same and much preferred their earlier concepts and the promises. There were 4 years between this 2009 concept and the first FRS. about half way between that i said what im hoping this car is like is an s2000, then just bought a used S2000 instead. Glad i did. i enjoyed driving the S2000 far more

Your second point is technically valid, but likely offset by also burning a little less fuel by making fewer detours to refill.

i agree. i looked hopefully at them for several years after they were announced. when i was finally in the market for a new car i test drove one and was severely disappointed. there wasn’t a single thing i liked about it other than the look.

I might get some hate for this one, but ALL Luxury brands... at least the more common ones like BMW, Mercedes, Lexus, Cadillac, Acura, Infinity and such. It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a luxury brand that actually felt like it was worth the extra money over what is available from “more affordable” brands.

Honda CR-Z.

Toyota has had shit paint since the early 2000's. They skimp on the clear coat so much, it trashes the paint. They do it especially on the white cars so the clear coat fading out doesn’t show as much.
What really rubs me wrong about that suv is that the interior is just so dated. even for the year it came out. it

People are going to think I’m nuts for this one but the 5th generation 4Runner. After having a couple of 3rd gens I figured the current model in the Off-Road Premium trim would be a keeper. Sure it’s a great truck but I found it larger than it needs to be and so smooth that it seemed detached from the driving

Just as a little real world note, I did 640 miles in a Ram TRX last year. Much of it was on the highway. I averaged just 10.8 miles per gallon during my whole trip. Add in the fact this thing comes with a 33 gallon fuel tank, and you’re going to be spending a hell of a lot of money on gas.

Wait until you hear about Radwood, or better yet, Hagerty’s Festival of the Unexceptional.

It’s why you give your kid a 5 year old honda Civic for his high school graduation.”

There’s a shit load of people who collect (or keep in great shape) boring normal cars. These single cam Saturns have a cult following too due to their insane durability and low running cost, so I could easily see someone buying it and using it as a weekend/summer car.

I hope it went to a collector or a museum. These mundane (don’t @ me, these were a dime a dozen back in the early 2000s. I smoked weed in no less than a dozen different random beater Saturns in my teens) cars need to be preserved just as much as the Ferraris and Lambos of the world.

Lexus mid-size SUV”

Isn’t this more inline with a Defender than the Disco, especially now considering there is the Defender 130?

Absolutely this.  The wiser you are with your money early in life, the sooner you’ll be able to afford a REALLY nice car (or a house, or a boat, or whatever).  That doesn’t mean don’t get a cool car, but maybe get a cheaper cool car for the moment, see what your life looks like in your new spot, make sure you are

Agree with the crowd. Hold off the celebration until after your first raise or promotion.

I haven’t owned a car in 15 years. I get around by combination of motorcycle, public transit, and the occasional rental. I don’t have a long commute, so that helps, and I recognize my situation is not universal.

Spending drives the short-term economy. Investment is for the long-term. Investing that 25k is probably a better choice.

Yup, I was established in my job for years, bought a house, and had gotten engaged before I even considered buying a replacement for my grad school car
