They were damn reliable little cars that were fun to throw around in 3.0/5-speed trim, even stock.
I see 3 daily here in the rust belt. 2 are 3.0/4-speeds, the other is a 2.2L/3-speed.
Not only was the Prowler quick for the era, putting down the same 0-60 and quarter mile times as the WS6/Z28, but it’s lightweight V6/transaxle combo lead to an almost perfect weight balance that net it better handling than the coveted Miata of the era.
These were actually god damn reliable and pretty enjoyable to throw around though?
3-speed autos were still being used into the late 90s by quite a few manufacturers.
The Stealth came out in 1991. The RT model made 300hp/320ft-lbs and ran 0-60 in 5.2 seconds, 13.6 seconds in the quarter.
The nice little secret of that 3.0 is that it was a SOHC version of the same 6g72TT that powered the 3000GT.
This of course means it takes very well to mods and boost.
Likely a beat down one his high school buddy had that already had 150k hard miles on it when they acquired it.
Yet all of them were infinitely more fun, which is the whole point of performance cars to begin with.
Tell me you know nothing of these cars without telling me....
The Beretta GTZ came with the Quad4 HO, a 5-speed manual, and ran 0-60 in 7.5 seconds.
It also held Car and Driver’s “Highest FWD car Skidpad” for the time.
Same mistake by almost every single one of these people. They hydroplane as they hit the overpass runoff, then proceed to brake instead of just easing up on the throttle.
Just proof that modern vehicles have gotten far too heavy...
I was comparing to my 2019, which is 4,330lbs.
And again, less than 500lb difference between a Model3 and a Minivan is insane. In no world should a small EV like the Model3 weigh almost as much as a Minivan.
You paid $3k more for a compact EV than I paid for a low mileage 7 passenger minivan.
False.
Ah yes, another massive behemoth EV to continue portraying exactly what is wrong with modern society....
Most of the issue lies in the overly swoopy/curvy designs that cut into head/shoulder room, combined with overly sporty seating design, and the abundance of center consoles.
“Safe” is relative.
