I always understood Succession to be more about the Murdoch family. The Trumps are just much more in the limelight and an easier comparison for most people.

The Oompa Loompas in the first edition of the book were super problematic. (Go figure, R. Dahl wrote a book where his racism showed. And it got published. Only corrected, sort of, in later editions.) They were literally negro African pygmy slaves. But happy slaves. I mean... it was bad!

It was filmed in Germany but it wasn’t set in Germany.  It’s in a no-name city that is presumably in England (and maybe the book sets it in England outright?).

I didn’t notice until my kid made me rewatch it recently, but there’s a lot of variation in the accents. Some American, some English. The location looked nothing like anywhere in the US, so it definitely seemed like they were aiming for something European.

Spoiler alert: everybody dies (eventually)

With that budget they’d have to have chosen either freaks or geeks. Can’t do both.

The only bad part about this is we’re not going to see Eric Wareheim probably, and that’s a tremendous shame. I fucking adored him in the first two seasons.
