I would put Fast Times at Ridgemont High as the funniest of those, but Valley Girl definitely had the best soundtrack.

Well, there’s maybe 4 songs on there that wouldn’t make me want to stab out my ear drums.  Thanks for nothing, Madonna.

I’ve heard it from people from Westchester Co., NY and from NJ. Are people from Long Island the only ones from the NYC metropolitan area that you know?

I understand that. My point is that Americans wouldn’t use an abbreviation of a word (bolognese) that is not in common speaking use.

I am not old enough to have seen this event, but it always seemed like an odd stunt when reading about it. If Marlon Brando was that appalled by Hollywood, why keep making movies and taking their dirty money? Or surely he could have used his clout to hire Native American actors or have a movie made that told a story

It’s a private school. If they’re unhappy, they can apply for a public school job, preferably with a union.

I think the idea is that a different parent has coverage of snack time for a one week or a couple of weeks a year and never has to send a snack any other time. That’s not going to be any more expensive in the long-term than doling out a snack just for your kid every day.

Yovonne is not a name either.

I don’t particularly like smoked things either. I like basically all kinds of cheese, but I’ll pass on the smoked variety.

I think I am good with hanging out with neither you nor them.

I don’t think the Secret Service is going to like Melania slapping Donald under your plan.

I’m American, and I never heard the term until I encountered it in discussions with Brits on the internet. I think most Americans would call it meat sauce rather than bolognese unless it was listed that way on a menu.

Despite spending a good amount of time on Long Island and having multiple friends from there, I’ve never heard of “roni ‘n gravy”.  Gravy for red sauce doesn’t seem to be Long Island-specific in my experience.

The third time was not the charm.

Young urban professionals?  At least some of them were.

Popularity isn’t necessarily a measure of greatness. Madonna is not a better singer than Aretha Franklin.

I agree with you. I have a family member who has a history of addiction, but has been clean for over 20 years. This family member always had a “leap before you look” personality - spending rather than saving, driving fast, risk taking, making quick decisions about relationships. Some of those behaviors have mellowed

Are there actually people who think Friends is the greatest show of all time? I’ve never met one.

In real life, the guy from Counting Crows dated 2 out of the 3 main actresses on Friends.  It happens.

I love Never Have I Ever, and I’m older than the dead father in the show.
