Unlike most of our politicians, he grew up in an environment that prized education; his parents were/are a physician and a college professor. He’s probably spoken English (and likely another language besides French, given the sort of student he was - he was brilliant and attended some of the most elite institutions)

She only won two out of 105 departments. Macron flipped nearly every department that she won in the first round. The highest proportion of blank ballots came from her strongholds.

My French friends are telling me that he’s not really a good guy, that he’s planning on cutting taxes for the rich and cutting public sector jobs, and that he was only elected because he was the alternative to the National Front party. This doesn’t sound great as much as it sounds like he was the lesser of two evils.

If you can ignore his accent, and listen to the words, he definitely makes more sense and has a much richer vocabulary than most american politicians. I even enjoyed the fact that he paused to reflect and to construct full sentences.

I think one major thing that helped is that their election cycle is so short. There wasn’t nearly two years of constant campaigning, commercials, endless debates, countless news stories both real and fake filling 24hr news channels, tweets, sound bites, opinion pieces, think pieces, election themed scripted tv...just

I’m glad they looked at what’s happening elsewhere in the world and said, “Non!” Hoping the cycle will come back around to something saner.

They refused because it is illegal in France and also morals...

Has anyone else looked at the immediate response of the currency markets?

Did you read the story that Macron’s campaign headed all that off by releasing phony material that the Russian hackers picked up on? Very smart, and I hope the Dems are paying attention for 2018/2020. Also, their big paper, Le Monde, refused to cover it in full until after the election.

Russia:

If reports are to be believed, Macron’s IT people essentially planted fake email accounts, aware they were being hacked. They used those accounts to plant fake email and other documents, which was mixed in with the data dump.

Tell the world my story!

Fucking fraternities. The Greek system is ridiculous at best, deadly at worst. Yeah, yeah, come at me with your stories about the lifelong friendships and networking and charity work - most of us manage to do those things without also needing secret rituals and silly cliques. It’s all bullshit that encourages groups

Awhile ago one of my roommates had to go to the hospital for serious cat allergy (he didnt realize it was that severe when his gf brought her cat over). Billed him around 3 to 5k for just a shot, an ambulance, and some minor tests, which on his pay was a lost cause. 2 weeks ago he came down with a monster sickness

College greek system just needs to just go away. I was in a fraternity and was spared the normal hazing issues, only because the frat I joined had just been re-chartered and was scared of making waves. I used it as a means to get socially “out there” and my experience was fine & beneficial for the social reasons I

None of the 8 who were in on the negligent homicide aspect (texting about Piazza being “a problem” and opting to not call 911 for 11 critical hours) will serve a day in prison. They’ll be receiving job offers from Boston Consulting or Bain and Co. the day of their inevitable acquittal.

That’s how “they” will save money on healthcare. Everybody is too scared to go to the doctor since there will be a record of pre-existing conditions. If you go to a doctor early to avoid consequences, you can’t afford insurance. So you don’t go for checkups for fear of being labeled.

In the eyes of these GOP nincompoops, that guy wasn’t denied health care, he just made a stupid decision not to bankrupt himself by seeing the doctor, and so therefore it was truly his fault.

Before ACA, my dad had lung cancer. He was convinced he was going to die so he decided not to treat and leave my mom in horrible debt. He died in the middle of the night after not being able to move off the couch for three weeks. No pain meds. No hospital stay. Nothing but my mom sleeping on the other couch watching
