I bet you the only research she did was read the script and maybe read/watch “The Descendents”. If she had actually lived amongst locals for any period of time, she would have taken note of the accent, the local vernacular, possibly a million other things that would have changed her acting from “Emma Stone remembers

“Extremely proud of her unlikely heritage, she feels personally compelled to over-explain every chance she gets. The character was based on a real-life, red-headed local who did just that.”

We paid you local savages less than we pay the mainlanders for four whole months! BE GRATEFUL! /sarcasm

She could have at least done the local culture justice. I’d like to see what “research” she did, because from the clips I’ve seen and the reports I’ve read, she didn’t change her voice, mannerisms or anything physical to align with the story that Crowe is giving and the defenses that people are giving her character.

He looks like he’s perpetually in mid-shrug.

Hm...one shouldn’t get charged if it’s gate-checked. Unless they tell you to check the bag before everyone starts boarding.

Oh god...the drugs really did him in, huh? I had SUCH a huge crush on him from the age of 9 to 11...

Cump, for short? :)

Isn’t Dior notorious for dressing their paid actresses horribly? At least that’s what word on the street says (from people I know who are familiar with the industry, which I realize sounds totally stupid :o).

I kinda have the opposite problem. Most of my friends are female, and no close friends are male!

The Hawaiian people, including members of the Hawaiian monarchy, did try to offer Hawaii to be a British territory, but the Brits declined because they were afraid of stepping on American toes (diplomatically). The Hawaiian Royal Family (without King Kalakaua) even visited England to try and talk to Queen Victoria

I think that was a Seinfeld episode... :)

I can’t even believe these words are coming out of my brain, but seriously...at least Rob Schneider had the fucking decency to take on a semi-accurate local accent instead of just going, “Hey, if I say the words in my own voice, but act the hell out of it, people will believe it!”

I also think it’s a case of both Cameron Crowe and Emma Stone going, “Hey, I really want to work with this person! So yes to everything!” and not really giving a shit about the material at hand, then blaming it on editing and script changes...

I wonder if she actually spent a good amount of time talking to local people on Oahu researching the part.

From the trailers, it doesn’t sound like Emma Stone is taking on a local accent, either. Just using her normal voice. I hope they don’t have her using local slang, because that could just make the movie even worse than I bet it already is.

One of the things I like about both the old and new Hawaii 5-0 is that they both hired locally. Local crews, local talent (except for the starring and big guest stars, of course), local locations. And Daniel Dae Kim is all kinds of awesome...

Because there were educated blacks who wrote their own books, own articles, and formed their own rallies and protests, and white people weren’t involved except those who were sympathetic to the cause and showed up to protest with the black community. Black people did it by themselves, and their voices were heard. But

I don’t mean to insult your preference. By no means is everyone supposed to get up in arms over racism, especially if they’re not of the race that’s being oppressed. But I kind of just want to make a comparison to your statement and the Amy Schumer sketch about the Trial Against Bill Cosby.

I’ve only ever ever experienced horrible flight attendants on Continental, which was merged with United a few years back, so I totally believe the horrible United flight attendant stories. Not to say that ALL United/Continental flight attendants are horrible, but it’s telling that that has been the only airline to
