Why didn’t we think to do some kind of decoration for our non-cake dessert table? I would have done something silly like having figurines custom-made that depicted my husband and I as cats. Or maybe something with an old-timey radio or radio control board. We met and had our first kiss in our campus radio station. Or

So far this year my husband and I are invited to 6 weddings, in three different states. We’re definitely attending 5 of them, and I might go to the sixth on my own. There’s also a chance that we’ll get an invitation to another wedding, in a fourth state for this summer. Three of those weddings are in a four week time

I had a Hermione Granger in multiple classes, same girl, it’s a smallish program. First hand up for every question, citing books and articles that weren’t part of our readings, basically showing everyone just how smart she was all the time. There’s nothing wrong with being smart, but she didn’t give anyone else the

I went through college with a Hello Kitty backpack and thermos. And various little kid folders. I also had the pink hair my school accessories for a year.

I wish we had a car, so when we did have a bag full of empties it was actually feasible to get all those deposits back. I'm too lazy to load them up into a cart and walk nearly a mile to the nearest store with recycling.

Who needs shoes at a wedding? I wore ridiculous heels that I was in no way prepared for during photos and the ceremony. I was barefoot for my reception. My heels were awesome though.

Get yourself a kid-sized reusable water bottle.

Can we add don't dress up like big bird or a sausage if you're one of the mothers? Long Island wedding a few years ago, with some very interesting fashion choices. One mother was in a floor length, halter, fit and flare dress with lace on it, that was bright yellow. The other was in a sheer bodice, flowy lace skirt

Cover your shoulders and knees, possibly elbows and collar bones depending on the family. If you have tattoos, cover those up too. Depending on the family, how tight the dress is won't matter. If you're friends with any women who are attending, ask them for advice on styles and stores.

Not as funny as many of the other excuses on here, but it's a good memory of my childhood. When I was a kid we had a cat named Hoek. He was the dumbest cat to ever live, but we loved him. Whenever my brother or I did something wrong, like leaving lights on or glasses out, we'd blame the idiot cat. This continued,

I have a matching tattoo with an ex-fiance too. Ours are the kanji for love, done in rainbow colors. I was 20 when I got it done, I think. I'm 32 now and happily married to someone else.

Reform would be less stressed about the rules. Our synagogue is Conservative, which is definitely more strict.

You're welcome, and thanks!

That's kosher style. We had our wedding at a synagogue, so we had to follow strict rules. Our meal had to be either meat or dairy, cooked by a kosher caterer, and supervised during production and plating by a Rabbi.

Our parents were as well. We had an open bar, but it was only wine and beer, which we provided. There was also hot apple cider and hot chocolate during cocktail hour.

I'm always amazed at the difference in prices for wedding then and now. The cost has gone up far faster than income, and modern weddings are expected to have so many more bells and whistles.

Your husband sounds like he must be fun at parties. :)

It was paid in full, because of amazingly generous parents on both sides. Most of the money went towards the food, but we kept the cost down by doing fish instead of meat. The caterer provided dishes and table clothes. We booked our venue two years in advance, so we got the cheaper rate. Also, we used our

That sounds right. I know our initial budget was $30K, but that was wrecked by the food.

  • Over $30,000. Not sure exactly how much anymore.
