I agree with this sentiment in terms of where celebrities throw their endorsements and money and whether or not that synchs up with how they brand themselves. My issue with Kirke’s stance is that I’ve been at cocktail parties with folks who work in her work circles (e.g. progressive Amazon programming) who’ve tried to

Yeah, if we separate the TS content, I think you’re totally right. I just hate this whole “Celebrities have a responsibility to etc.” thing. It’s still just all ego. If they have a responsibility to do anything, it’s to throw their stupid amounts of money at things that matter. I’d rather hear in 10 years about how

There are very, very few women who wear this mantle - in public or private - who do it justice. Kirke herself is part of a certain brand of “be pro-woman my way or f*ck yourself” feminism that circulates in the most progressive of Hollywood circles, which isn’t doing anyone any favors. When I hear celebrities like

I stopped this special about 5 minutes in because it feels like she has become a parody of herself, but now I’m going to review something on Netflix for the first time. Five stars for weathering this crap!

This sort of analysis is super common in all non-Western, non-allopathic medicinal traditions, so I am not really surprised (and honestly, no one interested in cultural diverstiy + health should be), but I still wish that instead of this kind of thing they would just give patients a 30 minute pep talk about how

It’s so fascinating that the gut is the one organ that modern medicine has never been able to replicate synthetically, via external devices, or with pharmaceuticals. It is truly magical. So, it makes sense to me that people will go to extremes in order to address what they perceive to be a poorly functioning

I’m so happy for her! Gastric bypass surgery can be really hard to live with in the years that follow. I’m glad to see she’s looks like she’s doing well!

It would be super-rad to get a list of women-owned businesses so that those of us who can’t strike can at least throw some purchasing power around. Anyone know of such lists?

Every interview I heard/read about Moonlight prior to the Oscars basically featured Barry Jenkins saying, “It’s nice and all that y’all loved the film, but can you please go tell your friends to buy tickets?!”

Cheney was evil in terms of foreign policy and how we fight wars. Bannon is evil is terms of foreign policy, how we fight wars, how we function domestically, and generally regard one another as human beings.

Go see it! I don’t hate La La Land, but after seeing Moonlight...it’s just amazing.

Lovely is nice, but Moonlight was groundbreaking, moving, the casting was perfection, and it was incredibly shot.

And for Warren Beatty and whoever gave him the envelope! So much cringing.

This makes me so sad!

This is a little off topic, but I missed the class on the snowflake meme - is it just basically about how liberals or millenials all think they’re unique and special, so snowflakes? Weird stretch of a diss. I was confused because that’s what I used to get called as a white person living in a historically black

He’s basically a Soul Cycle instructor. No knowledge of the relevant systems, but very loud (and probably makes a killer playlist).

Milo’s underlying platform seems to be: whatever happened to me is okay.

I’ve never been able to sit through an entire Malick film, but I’ve also never seen one in theaters. I’ll give this one my best shot and go see it big, then I’m out. After seeing Moonlight this year, I was reminded that a dreamy color palette + interesting cinematography can also be steeped in meaning - great cinema

I actually love her, but I can’t explain why. She falls into the same camp as Charlotte Gainsburg, where I don’t think there’s a lot of great acting going on, but I could still look at them all day and would listen to them read a refigerator manual. Not amazing artists, but made for the screen.

2. is me no matter where I’m going or why I’m going there. And I fall asleep with my head fully back and my mouth open. Don’t take me anywhere.
