NOx-exacerbated smog (and the resulting issues with airway irritation/asthma, etc.) are a major problem in big European cities as well, just more limited to summer. Then again, LAs smog issues always were worse in summer as well. As a result, Europe has clamped down a lot on diesels as well.

I work for a company where historically the work force was older than average, so I have seen a lot of former co-workers retire.  The ones that had hobbies, side jobs, etc. are still doing well for the most part.  Virtually every single one that defined themselves by their job and didn’t have a life outside of work

This is more a QC issue at the plant than a worker issue.

Not defending a sloppy worker, but that’s got to be a mind-numbing job.

Carbon fiber fails catastrophically, metal fails gracefully. Where a magnesium or aluminum wheel will crack or bend, a carbon fiber wheel will explode.  This is why the UCI allows carbon rims, but not carbon spokes in massed start races.

I think the carbon fiber wheels each cost what the entire set of magnesium wheels cost. And unlike magnesium, you can’t recycle the carbon wheels. At least magnesium you can re-melt and start again.

That’s what my friend was saying. Making a politician your whole personality is just creepy and weird. I’m not a dad, nor do I have the money or care to be one. But I do understand the empty nester curse I guess.

Not to mention magnesium burns white hot

Thanks for the explanation.  It makes sense what you’re saying, but it doesn’t make sense at the same time.  I guess the underlying lack of logic is what’s so confusing.

I’m confused:

I thought “Chad” had something to do with Florida presidential elections. That’s how old I am.

A Chad is a good thing? I thought it was a male Karen. I’m so confused with slang today. I miss the tubular, bodacious days.

Call me crazy, but I think they’ve sold a majority of the Cybertrucks they’re ever going to sell.

The new Camry is a nice car. The new hybrid system feels faster than the 232hp would suggest and Toyota’s tuning with the transmission is ace. The engine responds to inputs immediately. You can’t brake boost toyota hybrids, which makes their standing start times artificially low.

Jesus....I cant unsee that after you mentioned it.  Back end birth canal, fo shiz.

I wish the news would stop making such a big deal about phosphogypsum being radioactive. Radon is a largely exaggerated threat and meaningless out in the open, and properly distributed through the pavement, the level of radiation will be negligibly different from background. It’s actually a really clever way to

Until you breathe it in, where those alpha particle get a straight shot at our non-cardboard lined lungs. About 21,000 per year get a taste of that sweet nothingburger (and wish they hadn’t).

Radon is an alpha-emitter. Weakest type of radiation. Blocked by cardboard. Nothingburger indeed.

I thought I was about to open an article about a road that was perpetually warm up north and, therefore, less likely to freeze over. Then I saw Florida and the thought of a novel idea went right out the window.

Okay, since nobody involved in writing any of this decided to include actual numbers, I guess I’ll do it.

In 1990, the EPA banned the use of phosogypsum containing radium-226 concentrations above 400 bq/kg (1 Bq = 1 radioactive decay per second).

For reference, cement ALSO contains radium-226, along with potassium-40
